The safety hood must be securely
c)
fitted to the electric tool and adjusted
for maximum security so that only the
smallest possible part of the grinding
wheel is open and facing towards the
operator. The safety hood helps to protect the
operators from broken pieces, from accidental
contact with the grinding wheel and from sparks
that could cause clothing to ignite.
Grinding wheels may only be used for
d)
the recommended applications. E.g.:
never grind with the side surface of a grinding
wheel. Grinding wheels are intended for material
removal with the end of the wheel. Forces acting
on the side of these grinding wheels can cause
them to break.
Always use undamaged clamping
e)
flanges with the right size and form for
the grinding wheel used. Suitable flanges
support the grinding wheel and thus reduce the
danger of a grinding wheel breakage. Flanges
for cut-off grinding wheels can differ from the
flanges for other grinding wheels.
Do not use worn grinding wheels from
f)
larger electric tools. Grinding wheels for
larger electric tools are not designed for the high-
er speeds of smaller electric tools and can break.
Further special safety precautions for
cut-off wheels:
Avoid blocking of the cut-off wheel or
a)
excessive contact pressure. Do not make
excessively deep cuts. Overloading of the cut-off
wheel increases the pressure and the susceptibil-
ity to tilting or blocking, and hence the risk of a
recoil or grinding wheel breakage.
Avoid the area in front of and behind
b)
the rotating cut-off wheel. If you move the
cut-off wheel away from yourself in the work-
piece, the electric tool with the rotating wheel
can suddenly fly towards you in the event of a
recoil.
If the cut-off wheel jams or you interrupt
c)
the work, switch off the device and
hold it steady until the wheel has come
to a standstill. Never try to pull the running
cut-off wheel out of the cut as this could result in
a recoil. Identify and remedy the cause of the
jamming.
Special safety instructions
Do not switch on the electric tool again
d)
as long as it is in the workpiece. Allow
the cut-off wheel to reach its full speed before
carefully continuing the cut. Otherwise the wheel
may snag, spring out of the workpiece or cause
a recoil.
Support plates or large workpieces to
e)
reduce the risk of a recoil caused by the
cut-off wheel jamming. Large workpieces
can bend under their own weight. The workpiece
must be supported on both sides of the wheel,
both in the vicinity of the cut and at the edge.
Be particularly careful when cutting
f)
"pockets" in existing walls or other
surfaces that you cannot see behind.
As the wheel cuts into the surface it may collide
with gas or water pipes, electric cables or other
objects and cause a recoil.
Special safety precautions during
sanding:
Do not use oversized sanding discs and
a)
follow the manufacturer's specifications
for the sanding disc size. Sanding discs
that extend beyond the grinding disc can cause
injuries and lead to blocking and breakage of
the sanding disc or result in a recoil.
Special safety precautions when
working with wire brushes:
Note that wire brushes lose pieces of
a)
wire even during normal operation. Do
not overload the wires by applying too much
contact pressure. Flying pieces of wire can very
easily penetrate through thin clothing and/or the
skin.
If a safety hood is recommended, take
b)
care that the wire brush does not come
into contact with the safety hood. Disc
and cup brushes may increase their diameter due
to the contact pressure and centrifugal force.
