Diode Check
Do not connect the meter to a source of voltage or current when the
selector switch is in the
result.
1. Shut off and lock out power. Make sure all capacitors are fully discharged. Voltage must
not be present.
2. Plug the black test lead into the COM terminal. Plug the red test lead into the V Ω
terminal.
3. Set the selector switch to
4. Press the function (blue) button to select diode check; the
5. Do not touch the test leads to anything. Read the display. This value is the open circuit
voltage.
Note: The open circuit voltage, approximately 3.2 volts, depends on the battery condition.
6. Connect the test leads to the component and read the display. The expected display for a
diode in good condition is approximately as follows:
Forward-Biased
Reverse-Biased
Note: A forward-biased reading of 000 (short circuit) or open circuit voltage indicates that
the diode is faulty.
A reverse-biased reading of 000 (short circuit) or less than the open circuit voltage
indicates that the diode is faulty.
