Permissible towed weights:
The permissible towed weights compulsory for the respective vehicle model are indicated in the
vehicle documentation. These apply to all types of trailers.
For cooling reasons, a heat shield is required in the area of the rear muffler on the 316 i / 316 iA
for towed weights of over 1,100 kg (standard equipment when trailer hitch installed at the factory).
Notes:
The CBB is a safety part and may only be mounted by specially trained personnel. Should spare
parts be required, these may also only be mounted on the undamaged original-equipment part
by specially trained personnel.
No changes or modifications to the CBB are permitted.
Vehicle equipped with a trailer hitch from the factory are already equipped with a trailer
suspension. If the trailer hitch is retrofitted, the addition of a trailer suspension package is
recommended.
When installing the trailer hitch with removable ball fitting, an additional cover flap in the lower
bumper section must be obtained from BMW.
When retrofitting a trailer hitch (with removable or fixed ball fitting) a heat shield from BMW is also
required for the following models:
316 i / 316 iA
-
318 ti / 318 tiA -
Observe any increased tyre pressures for vehicles with trailer hitches or for towing operations in
accordance with the vehicle operating instructions.
When driving with a trailer, observe the driving instructions in the vehicle manufacturer's
operating instructions.
The trailer must be equipped with an appropriate towing coupling ball.
If installing the CBB necessitates the removal of the towing eye, the CBB serves as a
replacement, provided the permissible towed weight is not exceeded and the towing takes place
on normal roads.
The ball and coupling must be kept clean and greased.
Important: When using track stabilising devices, e.g. the Westfalia "SSK", the coupling ball
must be grease-free.
Follow the instructions in the operating instructions.
Check the ball diameter from time to time.
As soon as a diameter of 49 mm or less is reached at any given point, the CBB may no longer
be used for safety reasons.
The approved mounting points indicated by the vehicle owner must be used.
The mounting and clearance dimensions as per Annex VII, Figure 30 of the Directive 94/20/EC
are provided.
The attachment of the mechanical coupling device must be inspected in
accordance with the specifications in Annex I, No. 5.10. in accordance with the requirements of
Annex VII of the Directive 94/20/EC.
The CBB must be entered in the vehicle papers.
The mounting instructions must be added to the vehicle papers.
