2. Connect grounded, hospital grade power cord to the UPS AC connector receptacle.
3. Plug the power cord into a grounded hospital grade receptacle.
4. Align the key portion of the Microline Cautery Instrument connector with the UPS connector receptacle
and insert.
5. Plug the Footswitch connector into the Footswitch connector receptacle of the UPS. Ensure the
connector plug keys properly into the receptacle on the UPS.
6. Place the Footswitch on a level surface near enough to the surgeon that it can be activated by the
surgeon's foot.
7. Turn on the UPS.
8. UPS: When the instrument heating element is activated, the UPS emits a tone that will last until the
heating element is deactivated. The amount of heat delivered by the instrument heater may be adjusted
by pressing the "+" or "-" push pads on the right side of the UPS. The numerical setting is shown on the
LED bar graph above the push pads. Increasing the LED's numerical value setting increases the
amount of heat delivered by the instrument when using a single-heat range instrument or the variable
range when using the Footswitch accessory or multi-heat range instrument. Generally, lower heat
ranges increase the sealing capabilities and increase the time required to divide tissue. Higher heat
ranges decrease the time to divide and may decrease seal integrity.
9. When using Footswitch activated devices, depressing the Footswitch pedal will activate the heating
element only after closing cautery device. See device specific instructions for use.
10. Activate the cautery Instrument by first closing the device and then depressing the left or right foot
pedal (variable or high power respectively) depending on the desired-clinical result. When the heating
element of the Cautery Instrument is activated the UPS emits an audible tone that lasts until the
instrument heating element is deactivated. A low pitch tone is emitted when variable power is
delivered. A high pitch tone is emitted when high power is delivered
11. At the end of the surgical procedure:
o Turn the UPS off
o Disconnect the Microline Cautery Instrument and
o Disconnect the Footswitch.

Precautions and Warnings
• Use only with Microline Cautery Instruments and UPS. Use of any other instrument may damage the
Footswitch and could prevent it from functioning properly during use.
• Do not drop the Footswitch.
• Do not immerse the Footswitch in liquids.
• Do not sterilize the Footswitch.
• If using multiple Microline Cautery Instruments, do not allow instruments to contact each other. Do not
touch electrosurgical (monopolar) electrodes to Microline Cautery Instruments.
• The Footswitch is not intended for continuous use. A typical duty cycle of approximately five (5) seconds
on, ten (10) seconds off is recommended. If the Footswitch is used continuously, or the instrument
connector becomes shorted, the output of the UPS may be interrupted. This will be indicated by an absence
of audible tone from the UPS. Attempt to determine the cause of the problem before proceeding. If problem
