Ceiling-mounted motion detector LBD 18518
How it works
The
motion
detector
operates
using
passive
technology. Via a PIR sensor, the detector notices any heat
sources moving within its field of detection and switches
on automatically. Static heat sources do not trigger it. The
adjustable twilight switch lets you choose whether you have the
motion detector working day and night or only when it is dark. The
integrated timer also lets you adjust how long the light stays on.
Safety information
To be fitted by qualified electricians only, observing all
standard national installation regulations.
No work to be carried out while live. Circuit trip switch
must therefore be switched off.
Check to make sure the connecting cable is not live!
All warranty claims will be null and void in the event of
any damage or loss caused by failure to observe these
operating
instructions.
We
accept
no
liability
consequential losses or damage. We accept no liability
for any personal injury or material damage caused by
improper use or by failure to observe the safety advice. In such
cases all warranty claims will be null and void. For reasons of
safety and approval, no unauthorised conversion and/or
modification of the appliance is allowed.
Where to install
The motion detector is at its most effective when approached
diagonally. Motion detectors should therefore always be set up so
that they are not directly approached.
Installation options
The motion detector can either be surface mounted (fig. A) using
the surface mounting installation cap or installed in suspended
ceilings (fig. B) using the recessed fit installation cap.
Installing the motion detector
Remove the decorative ring fig. C.
Ceiling surface mounting
Unscrew the recessed fit installation cap (fig. D-1). Fit the surface
mounting installation cap as shown in fig. E. Connect the mains
connection cable as shown in the circuit diagram (fig. L). You can
connect the load, e.g. light, etc, using PE + N + L'. Switch the
mains power supply back on.
Recessed ceiling installation
infrared
Cut a hole into the ceiling, as shown in fig. F or fig. G, depending
on how far the device is to be recessed into the ceiling. Ensure
that the recessed fit installation cap (fig. D-1) is connected to the
motion detector. Connect the mains connection cable as shown
in the circuit diagram (fig. L). You can connect the load, e.g. light,
etc, using PE + N + L'. Secure the cable to the cable grip. Fig D-2.
Press both metal bars up and fit the motion detector
into the hole in the ceiling until it clicks into place. The
metal bars hold the device securely to the ceiling. Switch the
mains power supply back on.
Test mode / Motion test
Set the TIME controller to minimum (fig. J). If the motion detector is
connected via a separate switch, switch it on. A self-test lasting 30
seconds now begins. The attached consumer unit is on throughout
this time. When the unit goes out, the motion test begins. Whenever
for
any
there is movement, the unit will now switch on for c. 5 seconds,
regardless of how bright it is in the surrounding area. The time begins
when there is any movement from the front. The motion test ends
automatically approx. 1 minute after no more movement is
detected,
and
the
sensor
switches
monitoring mode, i.e. automatic operation.
The test mode helps you to establish the field of detection. After
it has run through test mode you can program the device. When
all settings are made, put the decorative ring back on the motion
detector (fig. I).
Settings (figs. J)
LUX Twilight switch, approx. 5 - 1000 Lux
TIME Sets how long the light stays on, approx. 5 sec. to 12 min.
DUSK-TIME (to switch on see next section) Time setting for
permanent light / holiday mode, approx. 1 to 8 hours.
Permanent / holiday mode
Note: To work, appliance must be operated via a switch, be
activated (switch is on) and in automatic mode.
Permanent light mode
You activate 'Permanent light mode' by quickly turning the
switch off and on twice.
The motion detector switches on and stays on when
dusk
falls
and
the
preset
darkness
regardless of any movement. The length of time to stay on can be
selected using the 'DUSK-TIME' adjuster. After this time,
automatic mode resumes.
4
Holiday mode:
You activate 'Holiday mode' by quickly turning the switch
off and on three times. The motion detector switches on
each day when dusk falls and the preset darkness level is re-
ached, regardless of any movement. The length of time to
stay on can be selected using the 'DUSK-TIME' adjuster.
Automatic mode is resumed by manually switching quickly off
and on once.
Troubleshooting – Practical tips
Problem

Note for both modes:
Regardless of the preset time, the motion detector switches
off as soon as the preset dusk level is exceeded, i.e. when
it gets light. 'Permanent light' or 'Holiday mode' can be
cancelled by switching quickly off and on once. The motion
detector then returns to normal, automatic operation.
The product is supplied with a small sticker to remind you how
everything works.
Recycling instructions
This device must not be disposed of with unsorted house
hold waste. Owners of old devices are required by law to
dispose of this device correctly. Contact your town council
for further information.
Cause
• Detection range setting
• Movement from the front
• Motion detector is mounted too low
• Difference in temperature between heat source and
surroundings is not big enough
• Constant thermal movement:
There are areas within detection range that are
not supposed to be monitored, e.g. footpaths, roads,
trees etc. Unexpected changes in heat sources
caused by storms, rain or fans.
The influence of direct / indirect sunlight.
• Vehicle has not warmed up
• Engine area is very well insulated
