1) OPERATING MODES

This battery charger has three main operating modes
(see paragraph 2 for detailed description).
A) CHARGE/ START
NOTE:
Capacity (Ah)= charge current x charge time
Example:
Charge current
= 10A
Charge time
=10 hours
It is then possible to charge a battery of 100Ah
B) CHARGE + STAND-BY
In addition to charge, with the function "Stand-by"it is
possible to enable the auxiliary output (12Vdc) which, by
connecting it to the vehicle cigar lighter, allows you to
maintain the essential functions of the electronic systems
and at the same time disconnect the battery and proceed
with the charge.
C) START (ST 300) BOOST/ START (ST160):
All functions and regulations can be set directly from
the control panel set on the front; the microcontroller located
inside will automatically control the settings.
2) FRONT PANEL KEYS (
(A) Battery Voltage Selection Key
This key permits selection of the battery voltage. The
scheduled working voltages are 12/24 V.
(B) Operating Mode Selection Key
Whenever this key is pressed and the stand-by plug is
connected, one of the following 3 operating modes is
selected:
CHARGE / START for the model ST 300
CHARGE / BOOST for the model ST 160.
For the
model ST 300, when the STAND-BY plug is
connected, the relative led turns on. For the models ST 160
this plug is constantly connected and therefore this function
is always available.
Selection is performed by pressing the various buttons until
the led corresponding to the required mode or setting
comes on; a buzzer indicates that the setting has been
performed.
The STAND-BY function offers a 12Vdc-1.5A stabilised

power supply output for the model ST300, and 12Vdc-0.8A
for the model ST 160. This function powers the essential
12-24 V
vehicle functions via the cigar lighter socket, It can also be
30A
performed at the same time as battery charging by enabling
the CHARGE FUNCTION..
The CHARGE function permits initial charging of the battery
at constant current with the value previously set, for a
maximum time of 10 hours. If the battery voltage is
particularly low, a fixed current of 2A will be delivered until
1.5 V/e is reached; once this threshold has been reached
the ST300 and ST160 will set their current until the end-of-
12-24 V
charge limits for that particular type of battery are reached.
16A
Once this time has elapsed, if the battery has not reached a
certain battery voltage level (stored inside the
microcontroller) a further 2 hours are added after which the
battery charge is switched off. If the battery charger reaches
the reference voltage before the end of the 10 charging
hours pre-set in the control circuit the battery charger
switches off without adding the extra two hours.
The START function (ST 300) and BOOST (ST160) permit
starts at CONSTANT VOLT AGE, automatically limiting the
current to the pre-set values with cycles lasting "5 sec ON"
and "20 sec OFF".
Blinking of the START (ST 300) led indicates that this
function is enabled.
The same is also for the function BOOST in the model ST
160, in this case the max. Current delivered is 30A.
(CHARGE)
CHARGE CURRENT SELECTION KEY
This key is used to select the required current level
The charge currents that can be set are
2/5/10/20/30 A for the model ST 300
2/5/8/12/16A for the model ST 160
By setting the key to START, the current available is 170 A
for the model ST300. In the BOOST position the current
available is 30A for the model ST 160.
(DISPLAY)
CURRENT/VOLT AGE KEY
Three different displays can be selected with this key:
- "I": the current delivered in Amps is displayed, both in
CHARGE and START;(ST 300); as well as BOOST (ST
160).
- "V": in this position the display indicates the output voltage
to the battery in Volts;
(ON)
SWITCH-ON KEY
This key identified by "I" allows the ST300 and ST160 to
deliver power to the battery.
IMPORTANT: before pressing this button ensure that you
have previously performed all the required settings.
If the function selected is START (ST 300), or BOOST
(ST 160) the battery charger will begin to deliver starting
current only when requested by the vehicle.
(OFF)
SWITCH-OFF KEY
This key, identified by "O", interrupts delivery of the current
