Slide the deflector (15) on to the tool and make sure that it

is securely located.
Removing
To remove the deflector (15), pull the deflector to the rear
u
and off the outlet.
Use
Warning! Let the tool work at its own pace. Do not overload.
Variable speed control (fig. G)
The variable speed control (1) allows you to adapt the speed
of the tool to the workpiece material.
Use a low speed setting when using a fine grit, when working
with plastics or ceramics and when removing painted or
varnished surfaces.
Use a high speed setting when using a coarse grit and when
removing a lot of material.
Set the variable speed control knob (1) to the required
u
setting.
Switching on and off (fig. G)
To switch the tool on, press the on/off switch (2).
u
To switch the tool off, release the on/off switch (2).
u
For continuous operation:
u
- Press the on/off switch (2).
- Press the lock-on button (3).
- Release the on/off switch (2).
To switch the tool off when in continuous operation, press
u
and release on/off switch (2).
Emptying the dust cassette (fig. F) (Where sup-
plied)
The dust cassette (14) should be emptied every 10 minutes.
Pull the dust cassette (14) to the rear and off the tool.
u
Remove the cover (19) by twisting it counter-clockwise.
u
Hold dust cassette (14) with the filter (18) facing down and
u
shake the cassette (14) to empty the contents.
Shake the cover (19) to empty the contents.
u
Refit the cover (19) onto the dust cassette (14), twisting it
u
clockwise until it locks into place.
Refit the dust cassette (14) onto the tool.
u
Cleaning the dust cassette filter (fig. F) (Where
supplied)
Warning! Do not brush or use compressed air or sharp
objects to clean the filter. Do not wash the filter.
The dust cassette filter (18) is re-usable & should be
u
cleaned regularly.
Empty the dust cassette (14) as described above.
u
Pull the filter (18) off the dust cassette (14).
u
Shake off the excess dust by tapping the filter (18) into a
u
dustbin.

Replace the filter (18).

Fit the cover (19).
u
Slide the dust cassette (14) on to the tool and make sure

that it is securely located.
Emptying the dustbag (fig. E) (Where supplied)
The dustbag (13) should be emptied every 10 minutes of use.
Pull the dustbag (13) to the rear and off the tool.
u
Hold the spout down and shake the dustbag (13) to empty
u
the contents.
Slide the dustbag (13) on to the tool and make sure that it
u
is securely located.
If necessary, the dustbag (13) can be removed from its frame
and washed. Let it dry before refitting it.
Special applications (fig. H, I & J)
Cranked arm (fig. H) (Where supplied)
Use section A for grooving or sanding in the centre of
u
workpieces and in confined areas.
Use section B for curved surfaces.
u
Straight arm (fig. I)
Use the normal or narrow arms for general use, for slotting
u
and for making joints.
Narrow arm (fig. J) (Where supplied)
Use the narrow arm for finer detail, for cutting and for
u
carving.
Hints for optimum use
Always hold the tool with both hands.
u
Do not exert too much pressure on the tool.
u
Regularly check the condition of the sanding belt (12).
u
Replace when necessary.
Always sand with the grain of the wood.
u
When sanding new layers of paint before applying another
u
layer, use extra fine grit.
Consult your retailer for more information on available
u
accessories.
Maintenance
Your tool has been designed to operate over a long period of
time with a minimum of maintenance. Continuous satisfactory
operation depends upon proper tool care and regular cleaning.
Warning! Before performing any maintenance, switch off and
unplug the tool.
Regularly clean the ventilation slots in your tool using a
u
soft brush or dry cloth.
Regularly clean the motor housing using a damp cloth. Do
u
not use any abrasive or solvent-based cleaner.
