3.2 Setting the Locomotive Address
in the Locomotive
On an earlier series of Märklin universal
locomotives, the locomotive address
was permanently set by means of solder
pads. The address for these models can
therefore be changed only by the Service
Department. Four coding switches are
present on the other versions of the
Märklin universal locomotives. Digital
locomotives usually have 8 coding
switches on which the address can
be set.
Important: The assignment of the
address to a type of locomotive is not
binding. It is only a suggestion for better
identification of the locomotives being
used on your layout. If you like, the
powered rail car address can be set on
a steam locomotive, for example, or
the steam locomotive address can be
assigned to a diesel locomotive, etc.
The locomotive body must first be re-
moved (follow the instructions for the
locomotive!) to set the address.

set in the "on" position. All of the rest of the
switches are set in the "off" position.
