9.3. Adjusting the drum brakes
In order to achieve the very best braking performance, adjust the bra-
king force using the adjusting screw. Braking force will be increased by
unscrewing the adjusting screw and reduced by screwing it in (Fig. 45).
•
Please unscrew the adjusting screw until you hear a scraping noise
when the wheel is rotating.
•
Then screw the adjusting screw in until the scraping noise stops.
The wheel then runs freely.
45
•
When you have finished making the adjustment, the adjusting
screw is fixed by tightening the locknut.
9.4. Adjusting the anti-tip wheels
Anti-tip wheels prevent the wheelchair from tipping over backwards.
•
Adjust the gap between wheel and floor to approx. 30 - 50 mm:
pull the disc back and move the anti-tip wheels along the guide
(Fig. 46).
Anti-tip wheels are particularly recommended for inexperienced
wheelchair users or amputees.
46
If the user does not need anti-tip wheels, you can push these to the
upper position or pull them out completely (see Chapter 4.9.2).
