In many countries, a new acceptance inspection
must be carried out after replacement of the ABS
system. Please contact your responsible
authority for more information. The necessary
VCS II Technical Report is available at
www.waco-auto.com under INFORM.
Disassembling VCS I Electronics
1. Read the wheel parameter data (tire rolling
circumference and exciter ring teeth count) from the
VCS I Electronics with suitable diagnostics
equipment and note all of the system functions set
there in writing.
If the ECU cannot be read, the tire rolling
circumference will be determined using the tire size
and a tire circumference table (diagnostic software).
The exciter ring teeth count can be determined with
the exciter ring test in the diagnostics software.
Other functions of the ABS system that could be
required for operating the vehicle, must be requested
of the vehicle holder or the vehicle manufacturer.
2. Ensure that the trailer vehicle is not under power and
that everything is depressurised. This requires that
you disconnect all cables and air lines to the towing
vehicle and release the air from the accumulator on
the trailer vehicle.
3. Label the connection points on all cables to the VCS I
electronics and then pull the connector.
4. Remove the VCS I electronics.
If a VCS I compact unit is installed, then the boxer
solenoid relay valve can be separated from the VCS I
electronics by loosening the four fastening screws.
The Boxer solenoid relay valve may be able to be
reused depending on the status.
5. Remove the modulator cable and any possibly
connected diagnostics cable. Perform a visual check
of the power supply cable (ISO 7638) and the sensor
extension cable.
These can be used again if they are not damaged.
Installation of the Separate VCS II Electronics 446
108 085 0 (Pos. 1)
1. Fasten the electronics to the vehicle
Locate an installation point on the vehicle frame within
reaching distance of the other cables to be used and
install the separate electronics there. Use M6 threads
to fasten the VCS II electronics on the rear of the
electronics (Tightening torque M = 9 ±1 Nm). The
electronics must be installed so that the sensor
connections YE1, YE2, BU1 and BU2 point
downward.
2. Electrical cabling
Please use the provided repair sheet with the support
of circuit diagram 841 801 932 0 (in INFORM under
www.wabco-auto.com) for the electrical cabling.
-
Connect the modulator cable 449 544 190 0 (Pos.
3) with modulator connector MOD RD (7)
-
Connect the other end of the cable to the
modulators. The allocation of the connectors to
the correct modulators must be checked in
accordance with the circuit diagram and
pneumatics connection to the wheel cylinders.
When using Kostal connectors, also use the
adapter cable 894 601 133 2 (Pos. 5) in each
case.
-
Close off the non-required modulator connection
on the cable with the protective cap 898 020 456 4
(Pos. 4).
-
Connect the power supply cable 449 386 143 0
(Pos. 2) to the connector POWER/ DIAG (14/15)
and connect this cable with the adapter cable 894
607 411 0 (Pos. 6) The old VCS I power supply
cable is then connected with the adapter cable
894 607 411 0 (Pos. 6).
-
Connecting the sensors is done according to the
system configuration.
2S/2M configuration:
Connect the previous sensor extension cable with
connectors BU1 and YE1 To avoid switching them, it
is important that the respective modulators and wheel
sensors are installed in the proper arrangement:
-
Wheel sensor YE1 corresponds with modulator
YE (B)
-
Wheel sensor BU1 corresponds with modulator
BU (C)
4S/2M configuration:
Connect the previous sensor extension cable with
plug connectors BU1, BU2, YE1 and YE2. To avoid
switching them, it is important that the respective
modulators and wheel sensors are installed in the
proper arrangement:
-
Wheel sensor YE1/YE2 corresponds with
modulator YE (B)
-
Wheel sensor BU1/BU2 corresponds with
modulator BU (C)
4S/3M Configuration
Connect the previous sensor extension cable with
