OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
Specifications
See current RIDGID Kollmann catalogue
Transport and handling
The transport and handling of the machine is straightforward.
Refer to figures 1, 2, 3, 4.
Machine set-up
For your own safety, before using this equipment, read
these instructions and the accompanying safety booklet
carefully and completely.
Keep these instructions
This machine is designed for cleaning drains using RIDGID
Kollmann cables and tools. We strongly recommend that it NOT be
modified and/or used for any application other than for which it
was intended including powering other equipment.
Place machine away from doors or passageways and ensure that
the total work area can be viewed from the operating position. Use
barriers to keep people away.
Do not use machine in wet or humid conditions.
Check that machine voltage is the same as the power supply.
Ensure air foot actuator switch operates correctly and motor
switch is in "0" position before connecting to power supply.
The footswitch allows full control of the machine which will only
operate when the pedal is depressed. For your safety ensure that
the footswitch operates freely and position it so that all controls
can be easily reached.
Check belt guard is correctly installed and that it does not contact
drum.
Operation
Safety
If your are uncertain about any aspect of using this equipment
contact your RIDGID Distributor.
Ground machine
Always plug the cord into a properly grounded supply socket
protected with a residual current device having a trip current of
maximum 30 mA.
Wear standard equipment glove.
Keep pulley guard in place at all times.
Position unit within 75 cm from pipe inlet.
Fit correct tool to end of the cable and switch motor switch to on
"1" (see Fig. 5).
Manual feed
Grasp cable with both gloved hands and pull approximately 50 cm
of cable from drum creating a slight loop between the machine
and the pipe inlet. Depress foot actuator to start machine and at
the same time use both hands to feed the cable into the line.
Important
Power feed
Depress foot actuator to start machine and at the same time move
feed lever to advance cable (see Fig. 6a). The feed rate increases
as the lever is pushed further from the vertical position. Keep one
hand on cable to feel tension. Continue until the motor starts to
slow, indicating that the obstruction has been reached. Pull back
cable (Power Feed - Move feed lever to retrieve Fig. 6b) allowing
motor speed to increase and then again advance cable slowly into
blockage.
Repeat this procedure as required.
Do not overload cable or allow tool to get caught in a blockage.
When blockage is cleared, flush pipe with running water and
retrieve cable, still running machine in forward direction. Take care
to stop machine before cable end and tool are taken out of the
line.
Special procedure
Only use the reverse direction on motor to remove tool from an
obstruction. Other use will cause failure of the cable.
Installing replacement cable - K-375, K-3800
Remove drum (Fig. 7 K-375, Fig. 8 K-3800). Pull out cable and
loosen cable bracket (Fig. 9) to allow cable end to be taken from
drum.
K-3800
Remove E clips and remove inner drum (Fig. 10). Insert 60 cm of
cable through guide tube and position under bracket (Fig. 11).
Reassemble inner drum and E clip.
K-375
Insert 60 cm of cable through guide tube and position under
bracket (Fig. 11).
Important, cable must be coiled in a counter clockwise direction
(Fig. 12).
Powerfeed adjustment
K-750
Adjust setting for 5/8" or 3/4" (Fig. 13).
K-7500
Remove power feed, loosen bolts #1 and remove bolt #2 (Fig. 14).
Insert 2 spacers for 5/8" cable (Fig. 15).
Installing replacement cable - K-750, K-7500
Retrieve end of cable from centre hole in carton. Connect to pigtail
and check the coupling is locked (see Fig. 16a).
Attaching tools
K-750, K-7500 - (see Fig. 16a).
K-375, K-3800 - (see Fig. 16b).
Maintenance
Drain cable drum after each use.
Periodically flush drum to clear debris.
Use sharp tools.
Replace worn or kinked cables.
Clean and grease all exposed moving parts.
For all other service and maintenance take machine to a RIDGID
authorised service center.
