Note: For endometrial biopsy, the instrument can be withdrawn when an
adequate amount of tissue is obtained for pathological examination. Withdraw
the cannula from the uterus and depress the valve button(s). Disconnect the
cannula from the aspirator. Alternatively, withdraw the cannula and aspirator
together without depressing the button(s). The sample may be left in the
aspirator to transfer for assessment.
• Empty the contents of the aspirator into an appropriate container by releasing
the button(s), squeezing the plunger arms, and pushing the plunger fully in the cylinder.
• For uterine evacuation, inspect aspirated tissue. For pregnancy-related procedures, address any
indication that 1) tissue is left in the uterus (incomplete evacuation), or 2) ectopic or molar pregnancy
is present. If visual inspection is not conclusive, strain the tissue, put it in water or vinegar and view
it with light from beneath. Tissue left in the uterus can lead to infection or bleeding. In this situation,
repeat aspiration/evacuation of the uterus. If no villi or decidua are present in the tissue, take steps to
rule out ectopic pregnancy.
Note: Endometrial biopsy samples should be handled according to laboratory protocols.
• Perform any concurrent procedures.
Instrument Processing
The Ipas MVA Plus and Ipas Single-Valve aspirators and any adapters used are labeled for multiple use
and must be high-level disinfected or sterilized prior to first use and after each procedure to remove
contaminants. Aspirators do not need to remain high-level disinfected or sterile for the next use.
Ipas EasyGrip cannulae are reusable after processing where regulations allow. Cannulae require high-
level disinfection or sterilization between patients. Cannulae must be HLD or sterile when inserted into
the uterus.
The flexible Karman and the Ipas 3mm cannulae are single-use devices. After use, treat and dispose as
infectious waste.
Decontamination Soak
Following the procedure, Ipas aspirators, Ipas EasyGrip cannulae and adapters that are reused should be
kept wet until cleaning. A disinfectant such as a 0.5% chlorine solution can be used. Letting the devices
dry may make it difficult to completely remove all contaminants.
CAUTION: Aspirators, cannulae and adapters are not safe to handle with bare hands until cleaned.
Ipas aspirators must be disassembled before cleaning and further processing. Detachable adapters must
be removed from cannulae.
Disassembly of Ipas Aspirators
• If still attached to the aspirator, remove the cannula by twisting its base/adapter and pulling it out of the valve. If
using a detachable adapter, remove it from the cannula by twisting it off.
• Pull the cylinder out of the valve.
Ipas MVA Plus
Press down the cap release tabs to remove the cap.
Open the hinged valve body by pulling open the clasp.
Remove the valve liner.
The collar stop should be disengaged by sliding
it sideways under the retaining clip or removed
completely from the cylinder.
• Pull the plunger completely out of the cylinder.
• Displace the plunger O-ring by squeezing its sides and rolling it down into the
groove below. It is not necessary to completely remove it.

Ipas Single-Valve
Remove the liner from the
valve.
The collar stop should be
removed completely from the
cylinder.
