Product description
This manual provides installation and basic troubleshooting procedures for the
Programmable Serial Interface hardware for a Hewlett-Packard Precision Bus
computer. It is designed to guide end-user customers and Hewlett-Packard
authorized service personnel to install the serial interface hardware and connect the
computer to a telecommunications line, a wide-area network, or another computer.
To complete the installation and operate the hardware, this manual must be used in
conjunction with other manuals. For example, you cannot operate the
telecommunications link on this hardware until you install the software provided
with your specific link product according to the link manual. Likewise, information
on computer setup and operation is available in your system manuals. Throughout
this manual we refer you to the appropriate manual.
The Hewlett-Packard Precision Bus Programmable Serial Interface (HP-PB PSI)
card is used to enable a Hewlett-Packard Precision Bus backplane computer to
operate as a node in a Wide Area Network (WAN).
The HP-PB PSI card is compatible with many telecommunications protocols such as
Synchronous Data Link Control (for HP to IBM mainframe connections),
Bisynchronous Protocol (for connections between HP computers), and X.25 (for
packet-switched WAN connections).
The protocols that can be used with the HP-PB PSI card are determined by the
software link product and the type of telecommunications cable that was purchased
with the hardware.
The HP-PB PSI hardware product includes the printed circuit assembly and a
telecommunications cable to make it compatible with your particular link product.
