to length and glue them on both sides of the doors, leaving a gap of 4 mm between each one. Varnish the
doors and glue them in place, half-open, in the areas shown.
Photo 41. Remove the parts 89 and line them, on one side only, using the strips 90. The lug must not be
covered. Use contact glue. Stain the parts 91 Sapelli colour and glue them to the part lined with strips. The
slots in the parts 89 must be hidden. Varnish these assemblies. Glue using fast-acting glue.
Photo 42. Glue the assemblies that you made up in the last step to the two carriage ends. Fit and glue the
parts 92 so that the bases 89 are aligned. You then glue the reinforcements 93 onto both sides of the basses,
making sure that they are flush with the profile of the bases. Use fast-acting glue.
Photo 43. Find the arches 94 and sand down all of the parts before staining them Sapelli colour. Glue
them in place in the slots left in both sides. Use fast-acting glue.
Photo 44. Using a sander, or a flat file, sand or file down the reinforcement parts 93 until they adopt the same
curve as parts 92 and the end of the carriage. This will ensure that there is a small base onto which you can
glue the strips 95. Now glue these strips onto the roof using fast-acting glue. Also glue them to each other
along their sides. You can wet the ends of the strips to get them to bend more easily. Start to glue the strips
onto the parts 92, aligned with the grooves in the arches 94. Finish of the lining working down toward the
edges until both of these areas has been covered. Trim off any excess from the ends of the strips and sand
down all of the surfaces until they are smooth and uniform.
Photo 45. Once the whole assembly has set cut out the central part of the arches 94. To do this use a
cutting tool and proceed with utmost care.
Photo 46. Use fast-acting glue to glue the end pieces 96 to the bases. Glue the strips 97 around the top edge
of the sides using contact glue. To cover the joint between the strips and the roof lining glue another strip 98
along the whole length of the carriage. Dampen this strip previously so that its shape will adapt to the curved
areas. Glue it into place using fast-acting glue. Sand down and fill in any gaps in the roof, do this as often as is
necessary to leave an optimum surface for painting. Apply a pore-filler varnish to the roof and outside of the
carriage. Paint the roof matt grey.
Photo 47. Assemble the structure of the clerestory using the parts 99, 100, 101, 102 and 103. Stain these
parts Sapelli colour before gluing them together. You can see that part 100 has different lugs to avoid incorrect
assembly of the side parts 99. Use fast-acting glue.
Photo 48. Use the strips 104 to line the clerestory roof. Paint one side of the strips white. Glue these strips onto the
first reinforcement piece 101, onto the sides and all the way to the other reinforcement piece 101. Make sure the
white painted side is underneath, inside the clerestory. Use fast-acting glue. The strips fitted on both sides should jut
out a little, as shown.
Photo 49. Complete the lining of the top making sure the sides of the strips are also glued to each other.
Adjust the width of these if necessary. Cut and glue the strips 105 until you cover the front and back of
the clerestory. Sand down, fill and varnish, as you did with the carriage roof.
Photo 50. Cut and stain the strips 106 Sapelli colour. Use fast-acting glue to glue them together side
by side to form a gangway. Glue the supports 107 to the underside of the strips, once they have
been stained.
Glue the first support with its curved side up, respecting the 6 mm indicated for the start and end of
the gangway. The rest of the supports are distributed at equal intervals of around 34 mm.
Photo 51. Paint the roof of the clerestory the same grey as the carriage roof (also check out the next step). Make up
the steps using lengths of strips 108 and the supports 109. Stain them before gluing together. Varnish the steps and
the gangway and glue them onto the clerestory. The gangway must be centred on the roof and the steps aligned
with the slots left in the sides. Use fast-acting glue.
