Photo 25. Use these parts to make up the structures of the short 3
class double benches.
As with the long benches, glue the interior legs 51 onto the lugs on the bases 56, once they have been
stained Sapelli colour. Glue the separator 52 onto the base. Also cut the required number of Sapelli
strips 57 to length. Make up five benches all the same. Use fast-acting glue.
Photo 26 & 27. With these five benches now assembled, start to glue the Sapelli strips into place, starting
with the seat and finishing at the top of the backrest. The finish will be the same as the long double
benches. Varnish the strips, glue the legs 53 in place at one end and paint them brown and black. Use
fast-acting glue.

Photo 28. Locate all of the parts you will need to make up the four 3
class single benches and glue them
together. You will see that two of the legs, 62 and 63, are for the right side and two are for the left side. Once
you have assembled the structures, cut the Sapelli strips to length, glue them in place and varnish them.
Photo 29. Finally, to finish off the benches, glue on the legs corresponding to each one, two on the right
side and two on the left side. Paint them brown and black. Also glue the armrests 54 into place.
nd
Photo 30. Fit and glue the three long double benches 43, centred between the windows of the 2
class
section. Glue the single benches, 48 and 49, against the partitions. Use fast-acting glue.
Photo 31.Now glue the five longer double benches 50 into place, these must also be centred between the
rd
windows in the 3
class section. On the other side of the carriage glue the short double benches 56 into place.
Glue the short single benches, 62 and 63, into place against the partitions.
Photo 32.Cut the Sapelli strips 65 to the length indicated and glue them onto the ends of both sides of
the carriage. Then cut lengths of the strips 64 and stain them Sapelli colour. These strips must then be
glued horizontally in place onto the top of window frames. Under the windows glue lengths of the Sapelli
strips 66 into place vertically, leaving a gap between them of 1 mm. Keep checking to make sure these
are vertical, using a ruler or something similar. Use fast-acting glue.
Photo 33. Cut to length and stain Sapelli colour the strips 67 and 68 and then glue them into place onto the
sides and cross member of each window, using fast-acting glue. The spaces between the windows must be
filled in using fine strips of Sapelli 69, previously adjusting their width to fill the space and using contact glue.
Photo 34. Remove the window frames, 70 and 72, sand them to eliminate any rough edges and stain them
Sapelli colour. First make sure that they fit the holes left for the windows in the sides of the carriage. Cut the
transparent laminate into rectangles the same size as the frames, in order to make up the window panes.
Photo 35. Glue the rectangular pieces of laminate to the frames, using transparent contact glue, so that the panes
will not become fogged. The 4 window panes to the lavatory must be opaque. To achieve this effect sand both
sides of the laminates before gluing them in place, using very fine grain sandpaper.
Photo 36. Glue the frames 70 and 72 into the holes left for the windows. Paint the brackets 74 and glue
them in line just above the windows, centred between them. Cut the necessary number of lengths of 1
mm diameter brass wire to simulate the luggage rack bars 75. Use fast-acting glue.
rd
Photo 37. Follow the same system as above for the brackets 74 on both sides of the 3
class section. Cut the four
lengths required to make up the luggage rack bars 76. Use fast-acting glue.
nd
Photo 38. Glue the brackets 74 into place on the other side of the 2
class section, along with the bars
77. Using the netting supplied, cut out the portion 78 and using fast-acting glue fix it in place. Also cut out
the portions of netting 87 and 88 and glue them into place as shown.
Photo 39 & 40. Sand down and stain the doors 79 and 80. Cut the Sapelli strips 81 to size as indicated and
glue them vertically in place. Then horizontally glue lengths of strip 82 in place centred on the bottom part of
the doors. On door 80 glue lengths of strip 83 and 84 as shown. The strips must be glued to both sides of the
doors. Cut the window panes 85 to size and glue them into the holes in the doors. Cut the brass wire bars 86
