Tuning
Tuning
RockShox SID can be tuned to your particular weight, riding style and terrain. Our forks can be easily tuned for
the 120 to 180 lbs. (54 to 80 kg) cross country racer.
When tuning suspension, always make one change at a time and write it down. Keeping a record lets you know
what changes you have tried and suggest what changes you might try. Ask a shop or local riders what they have
found works well.
S
ETTING SAG
SID forks are designed to sag when you are sitting on the bike. Sag is the compression of the fork caused by the
rider's weight. Proper sag allows the front wheel to follow the contour of the terrain as you ride.
To measure sag, install a zip tie on the upper tube so that it is flush against the XXX-wiper seal. Sit on the bike in
a normal riding position; then step off your bike and measure the bottom of the zip tie to the top of the seal. This
measurement is the amount of sag. Heavier, more aggressive riders need more pressure to maintain proper sag.
Use the following guidelines for setting your fork's sag:
Cross-country:
Sag = 20% of your fork's total travel
Racing:
Sag = 10% of your fork's total travel

OMPRESSION
With a single external adjustment knob located on the bottom of the fork's right leg, the cartridge adjusts
independently for compression and rebound damping. While pushing the knob in (default position) rebound
damping can be increased by turning the knob clockwise and reduced by turning the knob counterclockwise.
Compression damping is adjusted by pulling the knob outward until the detent is felt and then increased by turning
the knob clockwise or reduced by turning the knob counterclockwise.
Important: A fork with excessive rebound damping will skip over a series of bumps too quickly
and does not allow the fork to consistently stay in contact with the ground. This can cause a loss
of control of the bicycle with serious and/or fatal injuries.
Increasing the compression damping for extremely long climbs will help keep the fork from bobbing. Although
this may cause a harsh small-bump ride, the cartridge is designed to compress, or blow-off, on sharp-edge hits.
Increase the compression and rebound damping for rides that are technical. Increasing both the compression and
rebound will help in controlling your maneuvering during slow to medium speeds over rough and uneven terrain.
Important: After completing any rebound or compression adjustment make sure the adjuster
knob is pushed back into place.

ELECTING
The air pressure used in both the main and negative air chambers (air springs) should vary depending on the
rider's weight and riding style. Changing the main or negative air spring pressure alters the sag and firmness of
the fork.

O CHANGE THE MAIN AIR SPRING PRESSURE
1. Clean the top cap of mud and debris.
2. Unscrew the small cap with your fingers.
3. Using the RockShox air pump with the SID adapter, thread the pump/adapter into the
top cap (Fig. 3).
Important: Be sure to clean the adapter O-ring.
4. Pump the main chamber to the desired pressure.
Important: Do not exceed 100 psi in the main air chamber.
5. Remove the pump/adapter and replace the cap.
6. (SID SL, Race, and XL only) Select your riding style (cross-country/race) and set the
negative chamber pressure accordingly:

O CHANGE THE NEGATIVE AIR CHAMBER PRESSURE
Important: When depressurizing the negative air chamber oil may spray out of the bottom of the
fork leg. Wrap a rag around the pump adapter to prevent the oil from
spraying. Be careful not to get the oil in your eyes or on a disc brake.
1. Clean the air nut of mud and debris (located on the bottom of the left fork leg).
2. Unscrew the small cap with your fingers. (Fig. 4)
3. Using the RockShox air pump with the SID adapter, thread the pump/adapter into
the air nut.
Important: Be sure to clean the adapter O-ring of any debris.
4. Pump the negative air chamber to the desired pressure.
Important: Do not exceed 100 psi in the negative air chamber.
5. Remove the pump/adapter and replace the cap.
