Fall Arrest

(Figs. 1, 2, 3 & 4)
A compatible connecting device and anchorage connector/anchorage must always be used in
conjunction with the harness to complete the personal fall arrest system and protect the worker
from a fall while working at heights. The bosun chair and seat sling are not designed to arrest a
fall.
The connecting device must be connected to the back D-ring or back D-ring extension on the
harness. When the D-ring extension is used, always remember to add 18 in. (458mm) to the fall
clearance calculation.
A two-legged shock-absorbing lanyard or dual self-retracting lifeline system is recommended for
climbing applications. Alternatively, a fall arrester attached to a vertical climbing system may be
connected to the front D-ring on the harness so long as the personal fall arrest system limits the
maximum free fall distance to 2 ft. (0.6m) and limits the maximum arrest force to 900 lbs. (4.0kN).
For non-climbing applications, a single shock-absorbing lanyard or self-retracting lifeline is
sufficient.
Suspension
For suspension work, connect the bosun chair D-rings to an approved, compatible suspension
system. A personal fall arrest system must be used in conjunction with the suspension system.
Climb-Assist
Connect the seat sling D-rings to an approved, compatible climb-assist system. The sling is
designed for temporary support during extended climbing applications. Do not use for suspension
work. A personal fall arrest system must be used in conjunction with the climb-assist system.
Restraint
(Fig. 4)
The waist-level back D-ring is designed for restraint applications only. Simply attach a lanyard
between the restraint D-ring and the anchorage connector/anchorage. A personal fall arrest
system must be used in conjunction with the restraint system.
Note: Always read and follow the instructions provided with all system components
