4. Proper use
The SB 701 is a pillar drill with V-belt drive for
twelve different speed settings. Holes of up to 16
mm diameter can be drilled in vertical direction.
To use the pillar drill properly you must observe
the operating, maintenance and repair
instructions as well as the safety regulations
found in this manual.
The SB 701 is to be used only by persons who
are acquainted with the machine. All the
pertinent accident prevention regulations are to
be observed.
Unauthorized modifications to the machine
release the manufacturer from all liability for any
damage caused as the result.
For design reasons it is impossible to eliminate
all residual risks, namely:
1. Reaching into the chuck and drill when in use
2. Cutting yourself on sharp drill bits
3. Chips being flung out during drilling
4. Clothes becoming caught up in the machine
5. Safety regulations
Wear safety items when drilling.
Always keep long hair suitably covered.
Caution! Long hair gets caught easily in
rotating tools.
Always clamp workpieces with suitable additional
tools.
Check the clamping action of the chuck regularly.
Use only suitable additional tools to extract the
drilling chips.
Caution: Never remove chips with your hand.
Never make adjustments or perform any other
operations on the machine when it is running.
Always use the supplied chuck key to open and
close the scroll chuck.
Caution: Always remove the chuck key after use.
The use of the machine is governed by VDE
guidelines, DIN guidelines and the accident
prevention regulations published by professional
associations.
