Two levels of short circuit protection can be provided by the user:
1.
Type 1 protection is available where the short circuit protective device protects the wiring and the
integrity enclosure. The soft starter will probably damage and require replacement or repair before
being re-energized. Circuit breakers and motor circuit protectors provide this type of protection.
2. Type 2 protection is available where the short circuit protective device protects both the wiring and the
soft starter. The soft starter should not require repair before re-energizing after the short circuit has been
cleared. Fuses of an KR-1 type or HRC-1 type sized in accordance with the NEC/CEC code or SITOR
semiconductor type fuses provide this kind of protection.
* For a complete listing of Siemens SITOR fuses, see Appendix A.

When soft starter is operating, the RUN contact is closed.
When motor is running at 100 % of line voltage (after starting is
complete), the Um contact is closed.
The FAULT contact responds either to an EEPROM error or to a
short-circuited thyristor, depending on the setting of switch
SW1-4.
(Refer to Section 7.1 re SW1-4 settings. Reset fault simply by
giving a new start signal.)
