Connecting the power supply
Depending on the vehicle type (with or without RDU fuse holder (Fig. 3/2) at the rear), power
must be connected as follows.
Version A (with RDU fuse holder):
Power is picked up from the RDU at the rear.
17. Lay the red cable to the RDU (Fig. 3/2) under the left-hand tail light.
18. Cut the cable to size and crimp the supplied small socket contact (Fig. 3/1) onto the cable
end.
19. Dismount the RDU and insert the socket contact of the red cable from below into position 7
(fuse F75). Then reassemble the RDU.
20. Insert a 15A minifuse into position 7 of the fuse holder.
Version B (without RDU fuse holder):
Power is picked up directly from the constant plus (+30) of the battery.
21. Lay the red cable on the left side along the vehicle's cable harness to the front into the engine
compartment. Lay the cable as shown in the vehicle drawing (Fig. 1 and 2).
22. Push the cable through the cable leadthrough (small leadthrough) under the rod system of the
windscreen wiper (Fig. 1/3, 2/3). Make sure that the cable is securely fastened.
23. Crimp the supplied large contact onto the cable end.
24. Let the quick-connect receptacle of the red cable of the cable harness and the individual red
cable lock into place in the fuse holder (Fig. 2). Close the secondary latch.
25. Connect the eyelet of the individual cable to the M8 screw terminal of the battery plus
distributor (Fig. 2/1).
26. Insert a 15A fuse and fit the cover.
27. Fasten the fuse holder to the plastic duct (Fig. 2/2) in a splash-proof manner.
Note: Ensure sufficient strain relief and correct installation of the fuse holder.
Special information concerning vehicles with parking distance control (PDC)
On vehicles with PDC it is possible to deactivate the PDC for trailer operation.
28. Lay the brown/white cable to the PDC control unit behind the left-hand storage rack (Fig. 1/5,
3/3).
29. Open the 16-pin plug and insert the contact of the brown/white cable into compartment 5.
30. Close the plug and plug it back into the PDC control unit.
Note: If the vehicle is not equipped with a PDC system, insulate the brown/white cable and
secure it properly.
Checking correct operation
31. Reconnect the ground of the vehicle's battery.
32. Check the trailer function with the help of a suitable test instrument (with load resistors) or
with the help of a trailer.
33. Secure all cables using cable ties.
34. Reattach any parts removed for installation.
