13.4 Sensor guidelines
Keep deposits off the sensor for best measurements. Examine the sensor to make sure that there
are no contaminants. Keep the substances shown in

13.5 Maintenance
13.5.1 Clean the sensor
To prevent damage to some sensors, do not use solvents that dissolve plastic to clean the sensors.
Note: It may be necessary to clean the sensor more frequently if the sensor is used in environments with sediment
(i.e., silt), mineral precipitate, biofilms, barnacles or pollutants such as oil.
1. Clean the sensor with:
• Mild detergent
• Non-toxic, degreasing solution, such as Simple Green
Makers, Inc.)
• Warm water
• Clean, soft toothbrush
• Soft cloth and/or cotton swabs
If necessary, soak the sensor in clean water for at least 30 minutes to make the contamination
softer and easier to remove.
Note: Do not use dishwashing liquid to clean the sensor. Dishwashing liquid and household cleaners with skin
moisturizer can put a film on the sensor.
2. Rinse the sensor with clean water.
3. If the substance cannot be removed, contact technical support.
13.5.2 Replace the electrolytes and PTFE junction (pH integrated sensor only)
Replace the electrolytes and PTFE junction if the:
• pH readings are unstable or slow.
• A drift is seen in the pH readings.
• pH sensor will not calibrate.
Refer to the documentation supplied with the maintenance kit (013410HY) for the pH integrated
sensor. Clean the sensor before maintenance.
After maintenance, wait 5 minutes to let the electrolyte become stable.
13.6 Consumables
Personal injury hazard. Use of non-approved parts may cause personal injury, damage to the
instrument or equipment malfunction. The replacement parts in this section are approved by the
manufacturer.
