Most liquids, however, change viscosity with the shearing conditions which depend
on the size and the design of the rotors, the rotor speed, etc. Test results of non-
Newtonian liquids obtained by two different types of viscometers are usually not
comparable.
4.6

Consecutive measurements and accuracy

Two consecutive measurements under identical measuring conditions will only
differ by less than ±1% of the total range.
Standard calibration and accuracy of measurements:
The calibration factors are determined in a specially designed calibration device
with Newtonian standard liquids.
The absolute accuracy which can be obtained with the SKF TMVM 1 depends on
the rotor used.
Rotors 3 and 1:
Rotors 2:
The indicated measuring accuracy is only obtained if the original measuring cup is
used.

Operational check

In order to verify the functionality of the viscometer, tests on Newtonian liquids
have to be performed regularly to exclude instrument-related or user-related
errors. For this, a standard liquid corresponding to the measuring range of the
rotor used has to be used. The measurement has to be made in the original
measuring cup.
Silicon test oil is available in 500 ml bottles, designation TMVM 1-F.
The value which is displayed on the viscometer has to correspond to the value
indicated on the provided certificate for the standard liquid within the tolerance
(accuracy of the measuring system + accuracy for the certified viscosity). Since the
viscosity depends on the temperature, the measurement has to be made at the
temperature indicated for the viscosity of the standard liquid.
In case of major deviations of the given tolerances, contact SKF.
SKF TMVM 1
Accuracy ± 3% of the total range.
Accuracy ± 5% of the corresponding total range.
