sive environment containing fl ammable fl uids,
gases or dust. Electric motors generate sparks
that may ignite dust or vapours.
- Pay special attention to how you handle the
device and always proceed with care. Do not
use the device when you are tired or under the
infl uence of drugs, alcohol or medication. One
moment of carelessness during operation can
cause serious injuries.
- Always use the device, accessories, etc. in
accordance with these instructions and the
instructions accompanying this special device.
Also take into account the working conditions
and the job in hand. Using the device for appli-
cations other than those specifi ed may create
hazardous situations.
- When not in use, keep equipment out of the reach
of children. Personnel should not be allowed to
use the device if they are not familiar with it or
have not read these instructions. Equipment or
machines operated by inexperienced personnel
may pose a serious health hazard.
- Maintain the device with care. Check whether
moving components function correctly and do
not seize, and whether any components are
broken or damaged so badly that the device
will not function correctly as a result. Have any
damaged components repaired before using
the device. Most accidents are caused by poorly
maintained equipment/machines.
- Never use equipment with a faulty switch. Ma-
chines that cannot be switched on or off are
dangerous and should be repaired.
- Have your machine repaired by qualifi ed special-
ist staff and always use original spare parts to
ensure that your machine operates reliably.
- Always use original Festool accessories.
5.2
Machine-related safety instructions
- Do not clamp objects whose weight exceeds
the holding forces specifi ed under "Technical
data".
- Clamp workpieces so that the centre of gravity
is positioned over the suction plate.
- Observe the maximum workpiece dimensions
for each suction cup.
- Only clamp objects with fl at, smooth and airtight
surfaces. Clamping objects without airtight
surfaces decreases the holding force of the
device.
- Make sure that the surface of the object you wish
to clamp is clean, dry and free of grease other-
wise the holding force may not be suffi cient.
- Secure the clamping unit to a stable, fl at sur-
face.
- Do not operate the machine unless the indicator
on the vacuum gauge is within the green sec-
tor. Check the vacuum prior to each machining
process.
- The vacuum pump should only be operated
when installed in the SYSTAINER. Do not re-
move any inserts from the SYSTAINER. Never
operate the vacuum pump separately from the
SYSTAINER.
- Do not expose parts of the body to vacuum
forces.
- Observe the maximum air humidity:

Vacuum pump
Setup
Select an installation location for the vacuum
pump that corresponds with the following condi-
tions:
• Protected from bumps, falling objects or simi-
lar.
• Protected from moisture.
• Min. 50 cm above fl oor height to prevent chips
and dust from being drawn in through the ven-
tilation slits [1-4].
• Min. 5 cm from the wall to keep the ventilation
slits [1-4] free.
• Max. distance of 3 metres from the clamping
unit (due to the length of the vacuum hose).
Connecting the vacuum hose
• Before attaching the vacuum connector, remove
the protective cap [3-3] from the plug nipple and
turn to the side.
• Attach the coupling [3-1] on the vacuum hose to
the connector [3-2].
• Check that the coupling is secure.
• Only disconnect the vacuum hose when the
workpiece is clamped in position: Switch off the
