Removal of Dust Extraction Port
Note: If dust extraction operates at reduced capacity, the Dust Extraction Port (10) may have
become blocked. It can be removed for thorough cleaning.
1. Remove the Dust Extraction Port Screw (13) using a suitable Phillips screwdriver (not
included)
2. Pull the Dust Extraction Port out of the gear housing
3. Thoroughly clean the insides of the Dust Extraction Port (the use of compressed air is
recommended)
4. Fit the flat end of the Dust Extraction Port back into the gear housing
5. Reattach the Dust Extraction Port Screw and tighten by hand, using a suitable Phillips
screwdriver
Note: If, after cleaning, dust extraction still does not operate properly, the Hook and Loop
Backing Pad should be removed to clean and inspect the dust channels through the Hook and
Loop Backing Pad (2) and gear housing (see 'Fitting the backing pad).
Maintaining the backing pad brake
In free-run mode, the rubber collar, located between the Hook and Loop Backing Pad (2)
and the metal gear housing (see Fig. I), controls the acceleration of the backing pad, when
the tool is switched on, until the Hook and Loop Backing Pad reaches its maximum speed
The collar wears down with use, and has to be replaced when the braking/control
performance is reduced (see 'Fitting the backing pad' for removal/replacement)
Contact your authorised Triton service centre for spare parts or replacement service

Troubleshooting

Problem
No function when On/Off Sliding Switch (7) is operated
Motor suffers from cut-outs, loss of performance and
produces sparks and/or burning smells
No sanding action when On/Off Sliding Switch (7) is
operated, despite the motor running
Slow material removal
Scratches on workpiece after sanding
Burn marks on workpiece

Hook and loop surfaces
Hook and loop surfaces need to be clean, free of dirt and foreign matter, such as hair,
fibres, sand etc.
In order to provide adequate adhesion for securing accessories, hook and loop surfaces
must be in good condition
When used extensively, hooks and loops will become elongated or broken, and the
mechanism cannot provide the required strength of adhesion anymore
Note: This sander's hook and loop Hook and Loop Backing Pad is NOT a warranty item.
Replacement backing pads can be obtained as spare parts through an authorised Triton
service centre.
Brushes
Over time the carbon brushes inside the motor may become worn
Excessively worn brushes may cause loss of power, intermittent failure, or visible sparking
To replace the brushes, remove the Carbon Brush Access Covers (9) from both sides of the
machine. Remove the worn brushes and replaced with new. Replace covers. Alternatively,
have the machine serviced at an authorised Triton service centre
Storage
Store this tool and its accessories after use in its case, in a dry, secure place out of the
reach of children
Disposal
Always adhere to national regulations when disposing of power tools that are no longer
functional and are not viable for repair.
Do not dispose of power tools, batteries or other waste electrical and electronic equipment
(WEEE), with household waste
Contact your local waste disposal authority for information on the correct way to dispose
of power tools and batteries
Possible cause
No power
Defective On/Off Sliding Switch
Carbon brushes worn
Mode Selector Switch (3) in between settings; gears not
engaged
Sanding disc too fine or worn
Tool speed set too low
Wrong sanding mode selected
Sanding disc too coarse
Not enough material removed
Sanding disc incompatible with material
Tool speed set too high
Too much pressure exerted on to the sander
Wrong sanding mode selected
Vacuum dust extraction system not connected, or extraction
system not switched on
Dust extraction not working; sanding disc not aligned
with dust extraction holes in the Backing Pad; extraction
holes blocked
Solution
Check if Power Indicator (11) is illuminated; check power
supply
Have the On/Off Sliding Switch replaced by an authorised
Triton service centre
Replace carbon brushes (see 'Maintenance'), or have the
brushes replaced by an authorised Triton service centre
Ensure the Mode Selector Switch is turned all the way, and
locked in one of the two possible positions
Fit new sanding disc with coarser grit
Increase tool speed
Change sanding mode as described in 'Selecting sanding
mode'
Fit new sanding disc with finer grit
Continue sanding
Fit correct sanding disc
Decrease tool speed
Use less pressure whilst moving the machine
Change sanding mode as described in 'Selecting sanding
mode'
Check connection of the vacuum hose, and ensure dust
extraction system is switched on
Realign sanding disc; unblock dust extraction holes
