Peak flow rate: Maximum design process flow for intermittent high
demand through POE filter or softener.
POE: Point of Entry. A system installed where water enters the home.
Regeneration: The process of restoring exchange capacity to a softener.
Resin: For POE softeners, strong acid cation exchange beads operating
in the sodium or potassium form.
Sanitize: The periodic addition of a sanitizing agent such as chlorine to
attempt microbiological control.
Service flow: Process water flow rate through a POE system, often measured
at the point of 15 psi lost.
Simplex: Softener or filter using one media tank.
Upflow: Direction of water flow against gravity through resin or filtra-
tion media.
