NOTE: Do not insert the test probe tips into the TPS as they
will damage the smaller type plug on the TPS connector.
Voltage Change Test
To check voltage change:
- Connect the jumper wires between the connector
and the sensor.
- Set the rotary switch to voltage (
Connect:
- Black test probe to the Ground circuit.
- Red test probe to the signal line.
Set:
- RECORD (MAX-MIN-AVG) function on the Meter.
Turn the ignition key on; do not start the engine.
Watch the bar graph moving. The voltage drop should
change as the position of the signal arm on the TPS
moves (signal sweep).

The bar graph should increase without jumping if the
TPS is good. Refer to the manufacturer's specifications.
If the voltage change is not within the specifications,
check sources of resistance:
Poor connectors, connections or breaks in the wiring.
).
4. Oxygen (O ² ) Sensor Test
The Oxygen (Lambda) Sensor samples the amount
of Oxygen ( O ² ) in the exhaust stream. The voltage
produced by the O ² sensor is a direct ratio of the
Oxygen level in the exhaust stream. This voltage is
used by the vehicle computer to change the air/fuel
mixture ratio.
This test checks for the signal output voltage levels of
the O ² sensor.
To measure the signal output voltage:
NOTE: Do not insert the test probe tips into the TPS as they
will damage the smaller type plug on the TPS connector.
