3.1 Selection of the viscometer
•
Select a suitable viscometer. The flow time of the liquid to be measured depends on the size of the
capillaries. The capillary size of the viscometer should be selected in such a manner that flow times
greater than 100 s result. You will find assistance in the viscometer catalogue of SI Analytics GmbH.
NOTE: Please use original SI Analytics GmbH viscometers only.

cation and viscosity determination using the Viscosity Measuring Unit ViscoClock:

Owing to their constructional shape the type 502 41, type 502 43 and type 502 50 viscometers are not
suitable.
Prior to the first operation we recommend a cleaning process according to DIN 51 562, part 1. Sub-
sequently, the viscometer has to be dried and freed of dust!
3.2 Preparation of the sample
Prior to measuring, low-viscous samples should be filtered using an SI Analytics GmbH glass filter porosi-
ty 2 to 4 (10 ...100 µm), whereas high-viscous samples should first pass through a sieve with a mesh
width of 0.3 mm (test sieve 0.2 according to DIN 4188). Samples with a setting value or pour-point which
is not at least 30 °C lower than the test temperature according to DIN 51 583 or DIN 51 597, respectively,
have to be heated up to 50 °C prior to the measurement
• Fill the measurement liquid through the filling tube (3) into the storage container.
