6 Maintenance
• Check the coded band for damages and foreign bodies.
A functional check must be carried out before continuing to use the system:
• Check the tight and proper seating of the rail fastening plates and the fastening of the sensor.
• Check the tension of the coded band based on the extension of the spring.
• Make sure that the coded band is properly guided between the slides, see
Step-By-Step Installation [} 60].
• Finally check and clean the coded band by removing the dirt with a cloth during an inspection
run. Do not use a cloth that would leave new dirt such as lint in the holes.

6.3 Replacing Single Components
Defective or damaged devices and device parts can only be replaced as a whole. Exclusively
the slides and their fastening components can be replaced.
The replacement of a safety component requires a new validation of the derived safety
functions.
6.3.1 Replacing the Slides

The steps necessary for replacing the slides are represented as a sequence of graphics at the
end of this operation manual, see Graphics [} 2].
The illustrations used for this purpose are examples intended to describe the operating
principle.
The following partial steps will lead to successful slide replacement:
a) Loosen the locking element and remove the front slide [} 5].
b) Turn the slides if the other side still can be used. If wear is too high or if the slides have
already been turned, replace them with new slides (order code 8.LEX.ZB.0002).
c) Insert the coded band and the slides and fasten the locking element [} 5].
6.4 Cleaning the Measuring System
Proceed as follows to clean the measuring system:

Identification of errors in the field
A traceability of these products is recommended. This can be
achieved for example by means of the serial number on the type
plate. Complete traceability is decisive for fast and targeted reaction
in the market
Locking element check
Replace the locking element if it shows traces of bending or
breakage (order code: 8.LEX.ZB.0013).
