3 SPECIFIC SAFETY RULES FOR USING REC+ VAS 581 011
The technology used for the design and production control of the contaminated refrigerant
recovery units REC+ VAS 581 011 make them simple, reliable and safe to use.
Personnel in charge of using REC+ VAS 581 011 is required to follow the general safety
regulations, use REC+ VAS 581 011 for the intended use only and carry out the maintenance
as described in this manual.
3.1 Glossary
• Recovery unit: any REC+ VAS 581 011 unit.
• Tank: external tank for the recovery of the contaminated refrigerant.
• Operator: qualified and properly trained individual, in charge of servicing air
conditioning systems.
• Refrigerant: a liquid capable of vaporising (R1234yf).
• A/C system: vehicle air conditioning or climate control system.
3.2 General Rules
• The operator must have basic knowledge of refrigeration, of the refrigeration system, of
refrigerants and of the potential hazards that equipment under extreme pressure can
cause.
• The operator must have fully read and understood the information and the instructions
described in the technical documentation provided with the device.
3.3 Operator Safety
• The operator is required to wear adequate personal protective equipment, i.e. safety
glasses and gloves, steel toe safety shoes.
3.4 Recovery Unit Safety
• Only use on A/C systems that use refrigerant R1234yf.
• Make sure all the valves are closed before connecting the recovery unit to the charging
station and A/C system.
• Do not smoke near the recovery unit and during the operating phases.
• Do not use the recovery unit close to open flames, sparks or hot surfaces.
• Do not use the recovery unit near the workshop's service pit.
• Do not expose the recovery unit to direct sunlight, rain and bad weather.
• Disconnect the service hoses with extreme caution as they may contain gas under high
pressure.
• Make sure the couplers are closed when the hoses are stored.
• The recovery unit must be moved on its own wheels only.
3.5 Workplace Safety
• Never, under any circumstance, use the recovery unit in an environment where there is
risk of an explosion.
