Initial operation
2.1
Unpacking
The ViscoPump III module is delivered in a folding packag-ing with a plastic-foam protection. Please take
the module out of this packaging and make sure that all items specified on the packing list are present.
2.2
Installation and dismantling of the module
In the work mode "Press", in case of malfunction, the sample can emerge from the capillary
tube and could enter the thermostat bath! Therefore, especially during the pressing work mode, a
correct connection of the measuring tripod to the ViscoPump III and a properly used viscometer are very
important for the safe operation. With health hazardous and/or corrosive samples (e.g. acidic, toxic or
hazardous to the environment), the work mode "suction" is the preferred choice.
In the work mode "suction", the sample can be pumped into the ViscoPump in case of a
malfunction! In order to avoid this and the associated damage to the ViscoPump III, you must always
use a suitable tube kit including the safety bottles VZ 7021 or VZ 7022 during the work mode "suction". In
order review a possible immersion of the sample into the safety bottle, a capacitive sensor VZ 8552 is
highly recommended.
2.2.1
Installation
Please switch off the basic / controller unit first! Prior to installing or replacing this functional
unit, please make sure that the mains plug is pulled off of the mains socket!
The ViscoPump III module is installed by inserting it into the slot provided. In this process, please see that
both the printed board and the metal shielding plate are inserted correctly into the corresponding
guidance rails, and make sure that the socket bar locks in place. Subsequently, complete the installation
by tightening the front-panel screws.
After switching on, the operating indicator (LED) flashes for approx. 4 seconds.
The ViscoPump III modules control the entire measurement process, among other things the
temperature pre-adaptation process of the samples in the viscometers, the process of pumping
the liquid up into the storage containers of the viscometers, the measurement of the flow times
etc.!
If the module is incorporated into an AVS
start-up that the proper operating mode is set, i.e. "sucking" or "pressing" action; these operating modes
can be seen on the corresponding LED on the front panel of the AVS
WinVisco software of the AVS
in-structions of the device concerned to make the proper setting for the application, and make sure to use
the suitable hose set!

The AVS
370 can also be operated with ViscoPump II - modules, the older ViscoPump generation.
A mixed configuration with ViscoPump II and III - modules is also possible. In the case of a mixed
configuration, please note: The ViscoPump II - modules may only be used in the first measuring
positions, i.e. in the slots to the left of the ViscoPump III - modules (see  Fig. 3). If the ViscoPump
modules are placed in the wrong order, transmission errors will occur during RS communication!
