1.- PRESENTATION AND GENERAL ASPECTS
1.1 GENERALITIES
The CAPRI-SMART key cutting machine was designed taking into account the current safety
standards in force in the EEC
That safety of the personnel involved in the handling of this type of machine can only be
achieved with a well-designed programme of personal safety, like the implementation of
maintenance programme and following the recommendations as well as meeting all the sa-
fety standards included in this manual.
Although the installation of the machine is not difficult, we recommend to not installing, ad-
justing or handling it without before reading this manual.
The machine leaves our factory ready for use and only needs calibrating operations for the
tools that are going to be used.
1.2 TRANSPORT AND PACKING
The machine is packed into a rigid cardboard box protected with packing foam, with the fo-
llowing dimensions:
Width = 520 mm; Height = 650 mm; Depth = 575 mm
Weight of machine and packing = 30 Kg.
When unpacking the machine, carefully inspect it for damage during transport.
If any anomaly is found, immediately notify the transporter and do not do anything with the
machine until the agent of the transport company has made the corresponding inspection.
Lift the machine by its base, and not by other parts, to move the machine from one place to
another.
1.3 IDENTIFICATION LABEL
The CAPRI-SMART key cutting machine has an
identification label, containing the serial number
or registration number of the machine, name and
address of the manufacturer, EC marking and year
of manufacturing.
2. - CHARACTERISTICS OF THE MACHINE
The CAPRI-SMART key cutting machine has great precision and is robust, this is characterised
by the multiple possibilities of fixation of its clamps, without the need of adaptors or jigs.
2.1 KEY FAMILIES
The CAPRI-SMART machine copies among others, the following types of keys:
STANDARD CLAMP
- Security keys
- Wave keys
- JIS-4.P Keys
- FO-6.P Keys
OPTIONAL TUBULAR CLAMP
- Tubular keys
- FIC-2 and FIC-3 keys
- WIN-1D, WIN-2D, WIN-3D and WIN-4D keys
2.2 ACCESSORIES
The machine is supplied with a series of accessories for its operation and maintenance. All
these accessories can be stored in the toolbox (Optional).
- 2 fuses
- Allen keys 5, 3 and 2.5
- 1 special short Allen key of 1.5
- 2 end stop plates
- 2 axles for adjusting the clamps
Cutters: F-1
Tracers: P-1
2.3 TOOLBOX (OPTIONAL)
The machine has a toolbox that is located on the upper part of the machine. It can be removed
and placed directly on a table (that way there is extra space on the upper part of the machine,
useful for leaving keys, accessories, etc...).
2.4 ELECTRICAL CIRCUIT
The main components of the electrical circuit are as follows:
1. Plug
2. Connection plate
3. 2 position switch
4. Transformer
5. Motor
6. Screen-keyboard
7. Control board
8. Cutter
9. Tracer
10. Jaw
11. Illumination LED diodes

2.7 COMPONENTS AND FUNCTIONAL PARTS
2.7.1 CHANGE OF THE CUTTER AND TRACER (19)
Activate the blocker button of the cutter at the same time as turning the tool holder to release
the cutter.
Then remove the cutter, introduce the new cutter and tighten the tool holder, making sure that
the cutter is fully inserted into the tool holder.
The tracer is replaced in the same way as the cutter. The only difference to take into account
is that the turning of the cutter is always internally locked.
2.7.2 BLOCKAGE OF CARRIAGE AT THE END OF ITS RUN "Y" AXIS
There is a momentary carriage-blocking device to prevent the carriage from moving in the "Y"
direction, during the time when the key-cutter is fixing the keys in the jaws.
Simply move the carriage up to its stop point in the direction towards the key-cutter, to acti-
vate this blockage.
Just move the carriage forwards with a little pressure, to de-activate this blockage.
2.7.3 JAW(6)
The performance of the CAPRI-SMART key-cutter jaw is much better than that of a normal
commercial machine. Wear of the jaw does not mean the replacement for a new one, merely
changing the jaws of the existing one, with an innovative system for simple adjustment.
2.7.4 TRACER SPRING-LOAD (11)
There are two different ways of using the tracer, according to the type of work to be done:
- Spring-loaded feeler The spring loading of the tracer is only used for tracing security keys.
- Blocked tracer The blocked tracer is used for key-cutting operations with carriage movement.
Generally, for wave keys.
Just turn 180º (half a turn) the handle of the tracer spring loading to activate or de-activate the
spring loading of the tracer.
When the spring loading of the tracer is activated, the point of the tracer is slightly situa-
ted below its adjusted position regarding the cutter. This position of the tracer allows us
to smoothly introduce into the hole of the original key, before the cutter starts the cutting of
the key to be copied. This way avoiding vibrations and sharp displacements of the carriage.
2.7.5 SPRING LOADING AND BLOCKING OF THE CARRIAGE ON AXIS "X" (5 AND 4)
We recommend using the spring loading system of the carriage on axis "X" to do side cuttings
on wave keys.
We recommend using the blockage of the carriage on axis "X" to do point or in-line cuttings.
2.7.6 MAINS SWITCH AND MOTOR SWITCH (15 AND 16)
The CAPRI-SMART key-cutting machine has two switches, the general mains switch (15) at
the rear of the machine, and the motor switch (16) on the side of the machine.
CAREFUL! ALTHOUGH THE MOTOR IS SWITCHED ON, IT WILL NOT TURN UN-
TIL THE LEVER IS ACTIVATED TO LOWER THE HEAD SOME CENTIMETRES,
THEN, THE MOTOR WILL START TO TURN
