After switching on the device, the oxygen sensor requires a warm-
up time of at least 10 minutes when the batteries are inserted and
not fully discharged. After changing the batteries or when the bat-
teries have fully discharged, a warm-up time of 1 hour is required,
and this is displayed on the device. It is not possible to use the de-
vice during this period.
A fresh air calibration is required after the warm-up time. This pro-
cedure results from the partial pressure dependence mentioned
above and applies up to a height above sea level of 1000 m. The
fresh air calibration should normally be carried out immediately be-
fore the measurement!
To do this, the fresh air must be free of measured gases or other
interfering gases.
The fresh air calibration must be carried out without the calibration
adapter fitted.
3. Perform the fresh air calibration as follows:
Calibrate the device to fresh air. In the fresh air calibration, the dis-
play of the sensor XXS O2 is set to 20.9 vol. %.
4. Press the »+« button three times. The symbol for fresh air calibra-
tion »
« appears.
5. Press the »OK« button to start the fresh air calibration. The mea-
sured value flashes.
If the measured value is stable:
6. Press the »OK« button to carry out the fresh air calibration. The
display of the current gas concentration alternates with the display
»OK«.
7. Press the »OK« button to exit the fresh air calibration or wait for 5
seconds. If an error has occurred during the fresh air calibration,
the error message »X« will appear. Instead of the measured value,
the O2 sensor will display » - - «.

8. The error alarm should be acknowledged. In this case, the fresh
air calibration should be repeated. If the calibration produces an
error again, the sensor must be tested by Dräger or authorized
specialist personnel and replaced if necessary. After a successful
fresh air calibration, the device is ready for

When measuring pure oxygen, an alarm is sounded when a
concentration of 100 vol. % is reached. This alarm can be
acknowledged with the »OK« button if the measured oxygen
concentration has dropped back to a value below the alarm
threshold of 100 vol. %. To do this, the hand pump adapter on

fresh air can reach the sensor.
In some cases, it can be that the full scale value is exceeded.

exposure to gas should be stopped, another fresh air calibra-
tion should be carried out in accordance with chapter 3.1 and
the measurement repeated. If the Dräger X-am
again indicates that the measuring range has been
exceeded, this should be checked with a reference measure-
ment. To do this, use an oxygen/breathing air mixture with a
known oxygen concentration of less than 100 vol. % (e.g. 60
vol. %). If a value outside the normal sensor tolerances is
determined during this measurement, the device must be
sent to Dräger for testing.
