General instructions on use
3.1.1
Behaviour of the communication unit
The communication unit is preconfigured with a specific number of
groups prior to delivery according to customer specifications.
Additional groups can be set using the configuration software.
When the communication unit is switched on, it starts in the factory
setting with "Group one".
Dräger recommends establishing rules for use and switching between
groups and ensuring training is carried out. If several fire stations use
the communication units in the same operating area, the groups
should be split among the fire stations and common groups should be
defined.
If there are several crews in one operation, the first crew which is
deployed should select the highest group ID. Subsequent crews and
crews on standby should employ the following group IDs in
descending order to avoid disturbing those crews which have already
been deployed.
If group members leave the reception range for a group, the
communication units automatically create a new group with the same
group ID. This ensures communication is maintained between the
members leaving the group. If groups with the same group ID meet
each other, they are automatically merged to form one group (see
page 4, fig. B and C).
3.1.2
Display of operating status conditions
The communication unit provides information on specific status
conditions using the LED and signal tones (see first fold-out page).
When the LED flashes this means:
1
Ready for operation
12
2
Start
data transfer to PC, where applicable
3
Installation of an update to internal processors
or
shut-down
4
Bluetooth pairing
5
Bluetooth connection between communication unit and radio is
restored
6
Warning: Battery charge has decreased to only 25 %
7

activated
3.1.3
Connection of accessories
The communication unit may only be used in potentially explosive
atmospheres with accessories that are intrinsically safe. If accessories
are used that have not been approved by Dräger, compliance with the
parameters specified in the supplement 9031306 must be ensured.
