IP Protection Rating
The encoder must have at least an IP6x protection level to al-
low its use in Zone 2 (Gas) or Zone 22 (dust) (observe the
type plate).
Type of Connection
Exclusively use connectors or lines complying with standard
EN 60079-14:2014 (ATEX suitable).
Encoders with integral cable outlet
The cable entry has been checked with a reduced tractive
force of 25 % of the normative value. Ensure with additional
cable clamping measures that no tensile load is applied to the
connection terminals.
Ambient temperature
For use of the encoder in potentially explosive atmospheres,
limit the ambient temperature to -20 °C ≤ T

Pollution level
The device may only be used in an area with a pollution level
of at least 2 according to IEC 60664-1.
Energy Source
For encoders with an internal energy source (battery), a max-
imum operating temperature of +85°C [+185°F] shall not be
exceeded (see chapter Limitations [} 35]).

Transient protection
An overvoltage protection set to a maximum value of 140 %
of the rated voltage at the power supply terminals of the
device must be provided. A PELV power supply must be
used.
