Dolby Digital (AC-3) uses data reduction. Only audio information that can be perceived by
the human ear is stored. This allows a data reduction (without significantly reducing the
sound quality) to approx. 28 % of a comparable CD.
MPEG-2 Audio and Dolby Digital (AC-3) only differ in the way of data reduction. The
number of channels is identical.
DTS differs from Dolby Digital (AC-3) and MPEG-2 Audio in the fact that the data
reduction is considerably smaller. This results – theoretically – in an improved sound
quality.
For connecting the Surrounder to a Dolby Digital (AC-3), MPEG-2 Audio,
or DTS decoder, please proceed as described in the previous section.
SPECIAL CASE: STEREO SOUND SOURCE
The Surrounder can also be connected to a traditional stereo sound source but please note
that the Surrounder's benefits and features cannot be enjoyed to the full if it is connected
to a stereo sound source or a stereo soundcard.
• Connect the jack plug labelled "Front" to the output socket on the stereo sound source.
The jack plug labelled "Rear" is not used. Please take care that it does not come into
contact with metal parts!
If your stereo sound source has phono sockets (RCA), please use one of the adaptor
cables
.
