10. Minimizing unbalance

If great unbalance is measured at the wheel (e.g. static
unbalance greater than 50 g), it is advisable to minimize
the wheel unbalance by using the unbalance of the rim
to provide compensation for the static unbalance of the
tire.
This involves turning the tire on the rim. Follow the
program instructions.
The procedure is described below.
! Carry out the entire process with the highest degree
of accuracy!
i Exit the Match program by pressing the <ALU> but-
ton.
i In the following description the audio is activated.
Step 1:
Start the Match program
1. Start the <OPT> program.
 OPT and 1 are displayed.
Step 2:
First measurement
¶ Close the wheel guard.
 Measurement begins.
 OPT and 2 are displayed.
Step 3:
Turning the tire on the rim
1. Turn the wheel until the valve is at 12 o'clock.
2. Press the <SPLIT> button.
 The reference position of the wheel is stored.
 OPT and 3 are displayed.
3. Mark the reference position on the tire (at the valve
position).
Fig. 68:
4. Remove the wheel from the flange.
i To turn the tire on the rim it may be necessary to
deflate the tire, unseat it again (using a tire fitter)
and re-inflate after turning.

5. Turn the tire on the rim 180 degrees, so that the
mark you have made is situated opposite the valve.
Step 4:
Saving the new position
1. Fasten the wheel.
2. Turn the valve to 12 o'clock.
3. Press the <SPLIT> button.
 The new position of the wheel on the flange is
saved.
 OPT and 4 are displayed.
Step 5:
Reference measurement
1.
Close the wheel guard.
 Measurement begins.
2. Results are possible on completion of the measure-
ment operation:
$ Error message OPT and ERR on display => The
Matching program for minimization must be
repeated.
$ OPT and YES displayed => minimization success-
ful, minimization can be concluded.
$ Display OPT and 5 => Continue with unbalance
minimization.
i Pressing the <STOP> button displays the following
values:
Left display: minimum residual unbalance
Right display: static current unbalance value
i If the static unbalance value is close to the minimum
residual unbalance (less than 10 g), minimization
can be terminated by pressing the <OPT> key. Other-
wise, continue with minimization (Phase 6).
Step 6:
Turning the tire further on the rim
1. Turn the wheel until the green balancing position
LED lights up.
2. Make double reference mark on the tire (in 12
o'clock position).

3. Remove the wheel from the flange.
