Do not freeze or immerse the charger in water or any
u
other liquid.
Fitting and removing the battery (fig. C)
To fit the battery (13), line it up with the receptacle on the
u
tool. Slide the battery into the receptacle and push until
the battery snaps into place.
To remove the battery, push the battery release button
u
(13a) while at the same time pulling the battery out of the
receptacle.
Push the tube into the sweeper housing until the lock
u
button engages the lock hole in the tube.
Installing and Removing Attachments (fig. A5, A6)
To fit an attachment or the extension pole to the base unit
u
(1), align the attachment/pole base with the power head
as shown in figure D.
Firmly push the attachment or extension pole onto the
u
base unit until it snaps into place and an audible click is heard.
Note: Attachments fit onto the extension pole in the same
manner as the base unit.
Ensure attachment is securely attached to the base unit or
u
extension pole by gently pulling it away. The attachment or
the extension pole should remain in place.
To remove an attachment or extension pole, depress
u
the release button (7) or (12) located on the side of the
attachment or extension pole and pull attachment or
extension pole away from the base unit or extension pole.
Note: Only use attachments that are specifically designed for
and are compatible with the power head.
Correct hand position (fig. E, F)
Base mode, proper hand position requires the left hand on the
bail handle (3), with the right hand on the main handle (2).
Extended reach/Pole mode, operate with the right hand on the
main handle (2) and the left hand on the Pole grip (11).
Switching on
Push the lock off switch ( 5 ) down. Squeeze the bail
u
handle (3) and then squeeze the ON/OFF switch (2). Once
the unit is running, you may release the lock off switch.
The more the ON/OFF is depressed, the higher the speed
of the base unit.
In order to keep the unit running you must continue to
u
squeeze both the bail handle and the ON/OFF. To turn the
unit off, release the ON/OFF switch or bail handle.
Extended reach/Pole mode

Trimming Instructions (fig.E, F, G, H, I)
Note: keep hands away from blades. Blade may coast after
turn off.
Working positions (fig E, F)
Maintain proper footing and balance and do not overreach.
Wear safety goggles, non-skid footwear when trimming. Hold
the unit firmly in both hands and turn the unit on. Always hold
the trimmer as shown in Figures E, and F, with one hand on
the main handle (3) and one hand on the bail handle (4) or
Pole grip (11). Never hold the unit by the guard (8) or hedge
trimmer blade (9).
Trimming new growth (fig G)
Using a wide, sweeping motion, feeding the blade teeth
through the twigs, is most effective. A slight downward tilt of
the blade in the direction of motion gives the best cutting.
Level hedges (fig H)
To obtain exceptionally level hedges a piece of string can be
stretched along the length of the hedge as a guide.
Side trimming hedges (fig CI)
Orient the trimmer as shown and begin at the bottom and
sweep up.
Note: The cutting blades are made from high quality,
hardened steel and with normal usage, they will not require
resharpening. However, if you accidentally hit a wire fence,
stones, glass, or other hard objects as shown in figure J, you
may put a nick in the blade. There is no need to remove this
nick as long as it does not interfere with the movement of the
blade. If it does interfere, remove the battery and use a fine
toothed file or sharpening stone to remove the nick. If you
drop the trimmer, carefully inspect it for damage. If the blade is
bent, housing cracked, handles broken or if you see any other
condition that may affect the trimmer's operation contact your
local BLACK+DECKER authorized service center for repairs
before putting it back into use.
Fertilizers and other garden chemicals contain agents which
greatly accelerate the corrosion of metals. Do not store the
unit on or adjacent to fertilizers or chemicals.
With the battery removed, use only mild soap and a damp
cloth to clean the unit. Never let any liquid get inside the unit;
never immerse any part of the unit into a liquid. Prevent the
blades from rusting by applying a film of light machine oil
after cleaning.
