using an inductive method; 1 mV of the indication on the meter screen to which the clamp meter
is connected corresponds to a current of 10 A fl owing in the wire.
Connecting wires
If the lead plugs are fi tted with caps, remove them before inserting the leads into the jacks. The
black lead is connected to the jack typically marked "COM", and the red lead to the jack typically
marked "V". Please read the documentation of the meter before connecting the clamp meter to it.
When connecting the YT-73090 clamp meter to the YT-73085 universal meter, insert the black
plug into the jack marked "COM" and the red plug into the jack marked "INPUT". The selector of
the YT-73085 meter should be set so that it indicates the measuring clamp symbol.
MEASUREMENT PROCEDURE
In order to achieve the highest possible measurement accuracy, optimal measurement conditions
should be ensured. The ambient working temperature should be in the range from 18 to 28
C and
o
relative air humidity <75%.
Example of accuracy determination
Accuracy: ± (% of indication + correction)
Measurement of DC voltage: 139 mV
Current value: 139 A
Caution! In the case of the YT-73085 meter the result is displayed in amperes.
Accuracy: ±(2% + 0.5 A)
Calculation of error: 139 A x 2% + 0.5 A = 2.78 A + 0.5 A = 3.28 A
Measurement result: 139 A ± 3.28 A
Measurement of AC current using a clamp
Use the selector to set the appropriate measuring range. Open the measuring clamp by pressing
the lever. Place a single wire through which alternating current is fl owing within the clamp and
close it. Make sure that the jaws of the clamps adhere exactly to each other. For the most accurate
measurement it is necessary to make sure that the cable is held centrally between the jaws. The
error due to the non-central location of the wire is 1% of the measured value, but it can be avoided
by placing the wire centrally inside the jaws. Read the result. Do not touch exposed conductive
surfaces during measurement. This may cause electric shock.
MAINTENANCE AND STORAGE
Wipe the meter with a soft cloth. Larger amounts of dirt should be removed with a slightly damp
cloth. Do not immerse the product in water or any other liquid. Do not use solvents, corrosive or
abrasive agents for cleaning. Care should be taken to keep the contacts of the meter and the test
leads clean. Clean the contacts of the test leads with a cloth slightly soaked in isopropyl alcohol. In
order to clean the contacts of the meter, turn off the meter and remove the battery. Turn the meter
over and shake it gently so that larger pieces of dirt fall out of the meter connectors. Lightly soak
a cotton stick with isopropyl alcohol and clean each contact. Wait until the alcohol evaporates,
then install the battery. The meter should be stored in a dry room in the supplied unit packaging.
