When using the trailer hitch, always observe the
manufacturer's data regarding trailer load and vertical
load. The figures stated for the trailer hitch must not
be exceeded.
Formula for ascertainment of D-value:
Trailer mass [kg] x gross vehicle mass [kg]
Trailer mass [kg] + gross vehicle mass [kg]
The maximum permissible combined weight of vehicle and
trailer must not be exceeded. The maximum permissible
weight for the car-trailer combination is stated on the
vehicle's identification plate. Your Ford dealer will be
pleased to help you if required.
In the area of the contact surfaces, undersealing,
anticorrosion wax and noise-deadening material must be
removed. If necessary, apply corrosion protection according
to Ford Service guidelines.
Note: Jointly with the detachable tow bar the following
parts included in the scope of delivery must be fitted.

Before using the coupling device, the correct trailer
electrical kit must be installed.
It is recommended to install the electrical kit before fitting
the trailer coupling.
Disconnect earth lead from battery. Jack the vehicle.
Remove rear bumper (X1) and impact absorber as per
manual.
The impact absorber is no longer needed.

Screw in the inner screws (4x X3) of the impact strip and
tighten them to the specified torque.
Push the side parts of the trailer coupling (H + T) into the
holes in the side rails and screw up handtight with tension
brackets (2x C) and bolts (6x E).
Caution: The trailer coupling must be bolted to the

bodywork with bolts and screw threads free from
oil and grease.
Using the screws (4x X3), screw the brackets (U + V) to the
rear panel of the motor vehicle finger-tight. Align cross-
member (A) with brackets (U + V) and side pieces
(H + T) and do up the screws (4x F) finger-tight. First tighten
the screws (6x E) on the side rails to the specified torque.
Then tighten the screws (4x F) on the cross-member to the
specified torque.
Next tighten the screws (4x X3) of the brackets (U + V) to
the specified torque.
Fit socket bracket (N) to trailer coupling (A), as illustrated,
and tighten to the specified torque.
Note:
At this point finish installing the electrical kit.
Using the template (W; Y), cut out the shock absorber (X1)
from the outside, as shown in the diagram.
Replace rear bumper (X1). Replace or tighten all parts
removed or loosened in accordance with workshop manual.
For journeys without trailer the ball neck must be demoun-
ted and fastened down in the boot, as shown.
Instructions for using the removable ball neck are given in
the User's Manual of the Vehicle.
Operating notes:
The coupling ball must be kept clean and well greased (*).
