PREPARE TO CUT THE TREE

Do not work alone when you are working at height from a
rope and harness. You must:
get help from a ground worker trained in applicable
emergency procedures.
be trained in general safe climbing and work
positioning techniques.
have correct harnesses, ropes, strops, carabiners and
other equipment.
Examine, charge up, start and warm up the machine.
Switch off the machine before you send it up to the operator
in the tree.
Make sure that the machine has a correct strop for attachment
to the harness.
Secure the strop around the attachment point on the rear
of the saw.
WARNING
IMPORTANT
English
Attach the machine to the harness directly or indirectly
with correct carabiner.
Make sure that the machine is safely attached when it is
being sent up to the operator.
Make sure that the machine is secured to the harness
before it stops rising.
Always switch the machine off when it is directly
attached to the harness.
Attach the machine to the recommended attachment points on
the harness (mid-point or at the sides).
When changing the attachment point to another, make sure
that the machine is secured in the new position before
releasing the previous attachment point.

THE WORK POSITION FOR TWO-
HANDED USE
An analysis of accidents with the machine during tree
service operations shows the primary cause is inappropriate
one-handed use of the machine. In the vast majority of
accidents, operators do not use a safe work position that let
them hold both handles of the machine. Not hold the
machine firmly results in an increased risk of injury. If it
kicks back, it is more likely to touch climbing lines and the
operator's body (particularly the left hand and arm).
To use the machine with both hands, as a general rule
operators must aim for a safe work position in:
hip level, when cutting horizontal sections, and
solar plexus level, when cutting vertical sections.
When operator is working close into vertical stem with
low lateral forces on the work position, a good footing
could be all that is needed to maintain a safe work
position.
When operators move away from the stem, it is necessary
to remove or counteract the increasing lateral forces by
a redirect of the main line via a supplementary anchor
point, or
use of an adjustable strop direct from the harness to
supplementary anchor point.
