INTRODUCTION
The manual refers to compressed air line breathing apparatus with demand valve and full face mask (commonly called
airline) of the series RC and RL, which are based upon the same design and operating principles.
They mainly differ in the limits of application and the cylinder(s) size.
2.
DESCRIPTION AND FIELD OF APPLICATION
2.1 RC ‐ Mobile system
Spasciani respirators type RC are air line in which the compressed air is supplied by a mobile high pressure air supply system.
The warning system at the mask, Spasciani patented, advises directly the users of the imminent exhaustion of the air reserve.
A special device, placed by the cylinder, repeats the warning to catch the attention of an external operator.
The RC are designed for use in polluted areas for long duration maintenance works to chemical plants and generally
wherever there is or may be oxygen deficiency. These apparatuses are suitable for long duration interventions or where
the encumbrance of SCBA's cylinder impedes the access or movement. They can feed two men at a time up to 50 m
from cylinders and allow entering awkward places. The RC system can be backed up with the BUSS (Back Up Supplied
System) to be able to work in particularly dangerous surroundings (description par. 3.4.2).
2.2 RL ‐ Fixed system
Spasciani respirators type RL are air line in which the compressed air is supplied by a fixed high pressure air supply
system (e.g. cylinders pack or HP line) or by a fixed or mobile medium pressure air supply system (e.g. medium pressure
line or compressor). Spasciani RL respirators shall be fed from a breathable compressed air network through a reducer
set at 5.5 bar. When so connected the warning built into the demand valve cannot activate and in case of failure of the
air supply the user is forced to remove the mask. The RL airline are designed for use in polluted or oxygen deficient
environments for maintenance works or long lasting operations; they can be fed through a medium pressure hose up
to 50 m long. However the RL system can be backed up with the BUSS system to be able to work in particularly
dangerous surroundings (description par. 3.4.2).

TECNICHAL DESCRIPTION AND OPERATING OF THE MODULAR SYSTEM RC and RL
SPASCIANI system is designed to be modular and it can be made of the following elements:
3.1 RC
3.1.1
Functional parts
- Demand valve type A or BN with audible warning device (par. 3.3.6)
- Pressure reducer type RB with alarm and high and medium pressure gauges (par. 3.3.3). The RB reducer is a functional
part of the apparatus that are fed by cylinders (cylinders may be carried on trolleys or fixed in a cylinder pack)
- Full face mask: different models with standard threaded connection A Type (EN 148‐3) or bayonet type (par. 3.3.7)
- Medium pressure hose with quick safety couplings connecting the air source to the demand valve/mask assembly
(par. 3.3.4)
- Supporting waist belt (par. 3.3.5).
3.1.2
Air source
Cylinder/s of different capacity and filling pressure (par 3.3.2). The air must be reduced to the working pressure by an
RB pressure reducer.
3.1.3
Accessories/components available on demand
The following parts are available on demand but not necessary for normal use:
- Trolley: some of the functional parts and accessories may be mounted on a trolley. Trolleys come in two different
sizes depending on the capacity of the cylinders (par. 3.3.1)
- 4 ways valve (switch over device) (par. 3.3.8)
- Back Up system EN 137 (BVF‐BU EN 137) (par. 3.4.1)
- Back Up Supply System (BUSS) (par. 3.4.2)
3.2 RL
3.2.1
Functional parts
- Demand valve type A or BN with audible warning device (par. 3.3.6)
- Full face mask: different models with standard threaded connections A Type (EN 148‐3) or bayonet type (see par. 3.3.7)
- Medium pressure hose with quick safety couplings connecting the air source to the demand valve/mask assembly
(par. 3.3.4)
- Supporting waist belt (3.3.5).
3.2.2
Air source
Medium pressure compressed air line at 5.5 bar.
3.2.3
Accessories /components upon request
The following parts are available on demand but not necessary for normal use:
- Pressure reducer type RB with alarm and high and medium pressure gauges (par. 3.3.3).
RL system can also be fed by a cylinders cascade with a different reducer from the RB, but in this case it is not
possible to operate the alarm in mask.
- 4 ways valve (switch over device) (par. 3.3.8)
- Back Up system EN 137 (BVF‐BU EN 137) (par. 3.4.1)
- Back Up Supply System (BUSS) (par. 3.4.2)
