HANGING THE XTRASUN
1. Remove the Xtrasun reflector from its packaging and set aside accompanying materials.
2. Locate two ceiling joists with a stud finder.
3. Screw an eyebolt or some other means of hanging the reflector securely from the ceiling into
the first joist. Screw a second eyehook into the other joist to balance hanging the reflector.
4. Attach a chain, rope, or other sturdy material to the eyehooks.
5. Secure the chain, rope, etc. to the Xtrasun metal V-hook hangers.
6. Lift the reflector and ease it onto the metal V-hook hangers. Adjust height if necessary. The
Xtrasun power cord should be on the top of the reflector, pointing toward the ceiling.
7. Optional: Attach the power cord to the hanging chain with a cable tie so the fixture doesn't tilt.
8. Optional: Route the power cord up and away from the lamp to another hook (not included) and
down the wall to the ballast.
USING THE LENS
Xtrasun reflectors are very similar in appearance and operation with one major difference – the
lens. While both the XT8AC and XT6AC include a lens (it is optional and sold
separately with the XT1AC), the way you access the lens is different in all
three.
• XT8AC: Unscrew two thumb screws on the short side of the reflector to
allow the glass/frame assembly to swing freely. Lift the lens off its two
hinges on the long side of the reflector.
• XT6AC: Unscrew the three screws on the two L-brackets on each side of
the reflector.
• XT1AC: Slide the lens into or out of the slots on the bottom and lock the
tab of the reflector.
Clean the lens as necessary with a clean, soft cloth. When cleaning the
XT6AC, remove the entire reflector from its hanging chain and place on a
sturdy table to clean the lens. You do not have to remove the reflector from
its hanging mechanism to clean the XT8AC or the XT1AC lens.
Hydrofarm recommends using a lens with the Xtrasun reflector in all cases
where the reflector is used near water.

CLEANING THE REFLECTOR

1. Unplug the reflector and allow it to cool.
2. Lift the reflector off its hanging mechanism. Set the reflector bulb-side up
on a sturdy surface. Optional: Place the reflector on a towel or soft cloth.
3. Unscrew the bulb. Set aside.
4. Mix mild soap and warm water and apply sparingly with a clean
washcloth. Dry with a second washcloth. Flip reflector over to cleanse both sides.
5. Run a dry, soft washcloth over bulb to remove dust particles.
6. Screw the bulb back into the reflector.
7. Reattach the reflector to its hanging mechanism and plug in the power cord.
