8 Checking the distiller (OQ)

Once the unit is properly installed and the operator has acquired the knowledge to
work with it, the unit must be checked.
This process is known as Operation Qualification.
There are four basics checking to do:

8.1 Functional checking

Run this checking after the installation and also for some maintenance.
The «TEST» menu is used for components checking.
8.1.1 Checking the steam generator filling
When starting the unit for the first time, the water pump starts to refill automati-
cally the steam generator. This operation usually takes around 40 seconds and then
the unit stops also automatically. After 20 seconds, the «STEAM» alarm is activated,
which will also stop by itself.
If, approx. after these 40 seconds this operation is not finished, switch the equip-
ment off. Check that maybe the water tank has no water or that the water has not
the suitable conductivity.
If so, check, empty the steam generator by opening the drain and repeat the opera-
tion.
8.1.2 Checking the ammonia fixative solution
Insert a MACRO tube.
From «TEST» menu, select «H3BO3», press «ENTER», and this starts the dispens-
ing pump, it takes liquid from the 2 litres tank to collector flask.
Check, visually that the liquid gets the collector and press «ESC» to stop the pump.
Run this operation when the dispensing tube must be primed. If tubing is not
primed the dispensed volume will be wrong.
8.1.3 Checking the NaOH pump and tubing
Insert a MACRO tube.
From «TEST» menu, select «NaOH» and press «ENTER», this starts the NaOH dis-
pensing pump, it takes liquid from the 2 litres tank to sample tube.
Check visually that the liquid gets the collector and press «ESC» to stop the pump.
Run this operation when the dispensing tube must be primed. If tubing is not
primed, the dispensed volume will be wrong.
8.1.4 Checking and priming the digital dispenser
Run this operation to check the digital dispenser.
From «TEST» menu, select «PRIME», and press «ENTER», the digital dispenser
starts to pump HCl, in a continuous way from the 2 litres tank to collector flask.
Press «ESC» to stop the operation.
Run this operation when the dispensing tube must primed. If tubing is not primed,
the dispensed volume will be wrong.
