The geared motor has been designed to directly activate the cable winding shaft of the door which must feature 1" diameter (25.4mm)
and should be provided of housing for the key.
To fit the unit proceed as follows:
• Check that the distance between the rope coiler shaft "A" and the surface onto which brackets should be fitted ranges between 82
and 150mm (Fig.4/5).
• Weld or fit the bracket "S" to surface with screws (Fig.6A).
• Introduce the gear motor in the rope coiler shaft, while interposing the key "C" (fig. 6B/C).
• Tighten the fitting screws "V" (fig. 6D).
• To mount the plate on side "B", use screws TE M10x20 supplied.
To calculate the movement speed of the door, proceed as follows:
V = d (diam. of cable winding drum - m) x 3.14 x 24 = m/1'
It is possible to use the geared motor by extending the motion to the rope winding-up shaft by means of a chain (item VN.RM). The mo-
tion can possibly be transmitted reduced or multiplied (item VN.RV) (fig. 7).
To calculate the movement speed of the door, proceed as follows:
V = d (diam. of cable winding drum - m) x 3.14 x 24 x Z1 / Z2 = m/1'

5) WIRING
Remove the 5 screws highlighted in Figure 9 to access the electrical connections.
Different connection types are available depending on the version of gear motor chosen.
5.1) STANDARD WIRING (VN.S20 / VN.S40 / VN.ST20 / VN.M20 / VN.M40 / VN.MT20 / VN.MT40)
The connection box for versions with standard wiring contains screw terminals for connection to the central control unit, as shown in
Figure 12 (230V single-phase versions) and in Figure 13 (400V three-phase versions).
It is necessary to drill the closing screen* and use the PG11 cable duct (not supplied) for the connecting cables to pass through (see
Figure 10).
If you want to use a corrugated outer sheath for the connection (max PG21), there is a guide for the drill bit inside the screen to make
the hole (max. diameter 30mm) in the correct position (Figure 11).
5.2) QUICK WIRING (VN.S20ESW / VN.ST20ESW / VN.M20ESW)
Quick-wiring versions require the use of a quick connection cable (item CABLE VN.ESW 5/8/11, see Figure 20), supplied by the
manufacturer as an accessory.
This cable has two closing screens, one to be inserted into the VN gear motor, to replace one of the screens present*, and the other to
be inserted into the box of the THINKY central unit, to replace the present screen (Fig.20), the two terminals are not interchangeable,
the screen to be inserted in the box of the THINKY central unit marked with a red adhesive.
After inserting the two closing screens, connect the terminals as shown in Figure 21 for the VN motor, and in Figure 20 for the THINKY
central unit.
For more information on the functionality of the THINKY central unit, refer to the instructions supplied with it.
5.3) UP (MANNED) 230VAC VERSION (VN.S20UP / VN.S40UP / VN.M20UP / VN.M40UP)
The UP versions have an UP central control panel inside the connection box. Connect the opening and closing controls and the mains
power supply by drilling one of the closing screens and using PG9 cable ducts (not supplied) in a similar way to the standard wiring
(see Figure 10).
Note: The Manned operating mode requires the connection of an OPEN / CLOSE pushbutton panel, the button must be pressed down
for the duration of the entire operation. The controls must be installed in a way that the operator can visually monitor the entire opening
/ closing operation.
* The VN connection box has 3 identical closing screens in 3 different positions, use the screen that is most accessible for the type of
installation (Figure 9A-B-C).
6) WYE/DELTA CONNECTIONS FOR THREE-PHASE MOTORS (400/230VAC)
Three-phase versions (VN.ST/VNM.T) are normally provided for 400V wye wiring.
Models 400V three-phase can be used also at 230V three-phase by changing from a star connection to a triangle one as per fig. 14
VN.M20/VN.M40: The 25µF capacitor must be connected to the motor terminals 7 and 8 of THINK control unit.
