intEnDED usE

The Sunny Boy is a transformerless PV inverter with two different inputs. The Sunny Boy converts the direct
current of a PV array into grid-compliant alternating current and feeds it into the utility grid.
The inverter is suitable for indoor and outdoor use.
The PV modules used must not exceed the thresholds in the input area of the inverter. The inverter must only
be operated with PV arrays of protection class II in accordance with IEC 61730, application class A. The PV
modules must be suitable for use with this product.
PV modules with a large capacity to ground may only be used, if their coupling capacity does not exceed
1.4 μF (for information on how to calculate the coupling capacity, see the Technical Information „Leading
Leakage Currents" at www.SMA-Solar.com).
Use the inverter only in accordance with this documentation and the local standards and regulations. Any other
application may cause personal injury or property damage.

saFEtY PREcautions

When exposed to sunlight, the PV array generates dangerous DC voltage which is present in the DC
conductors and the live components of the inverter. Touching the DC conductors or the live components can
lead to lethal electric shocks. If you disconnect the DC connectors from the inverter under load, an electric arc
may occur leading to electric shock and burns.
This manual is intended only for electrically qualified persons, trained in the installation and commissioning of
electrical devices and PV systems and experienced in mounting and commissioning PV systems. You can find a

• Work on the inverter must only be performed by electrically qualified persons.
• Do not touch the DC conductors or any other uninsulated conductors.
• Do not open the upper enclosure lid.
• Disconnect the inverter from all voltage sources before working on the inverter or the PV array:
