Description and operation

The appliance you have purchased belongs to the
VORT NRG range and is a cross flow air exchanger
for heat recovery. This unit was designed to save
energy by exchanging heat between outgoing and
incoming air in ventilation systems. These appliances
have been designed for medium sized rooms in
private houses, in public buildings and in the service
industry.
The range is made up of the following models in order
of rate of airflow:
Models for horizontal installation:
referred to as "horizontal models"):
VORT NRG 500, 800, 1200: 4-speed single-phase
motors;
VORT NRG 2000, 2500, 3000: 3-speed single-phase
motors;
VORT NRG 4000, 5000, 6000: adjustable 1-speed
three-phase motors.
Models for vertical installation: (henceforth referred to
as "vertical models"):
VORT NRG 500 V: 4-speed single-phase motor;
VORT NRG 1000, 2000, 2500, 3000 V: 3-speed
single-phase motors;
VORT NRG 4000 V: 1-speed threee-phase motor;
VORT NRG 6000 V: 1-speed threee-phase motor;

• Do not use this appliance for functions other than
those described in this booklet.
• After removing the appliance from its packaging,
ensure that it is complete and undamaged. If in
doubt contact an authorised Vortice Service Centre.
Do not leave packaging within the reach of children
or differently able persons.
• Certain fundamental rules must be observed when
using any electrical appliance:
- never touch appliances with wet or damp hands;
- never touch appliances while barefoot;
- do not allow the unit to be operated by
unsupervised children or disabled persons.
• This appliance is not suitable for use by children or
by individuals with reduced physical, sensorial or
mental capacities or by inexperienced or untrained
individuals, unless they are supervised or instructed
in its use by a person responsible for their safety.
Children must always be supervised to ensure that
they do not play with the appliance.
• Store the appliance out of the reach of children and
disabled persons if you decide to disconnect it from
the power supply and use it no more.
• Do not us the appliance where there are
inflammable substances and vapours (alcohol,
insecticides, petrol, etc.).
• Do not use in potentially explosive environments.
• Internal cleaning of the appliance must only be
carried out by qualified personnel.

• Do not make modifications of any kind to this
appliance.
• The appliance must be installed by a professionally
qualified technician.
• Regularly inspect the appliance for visible defects. If
(henceforth
any are found, do not operate the appliance;
contact your Vortice Service Centre immediately.
• The mains power supply to which the units are
connected must comply with current laws.
• The appliance must be connected to an efficient
earthing system.
• The electrical power supply/socket to which the
appliance is to be connected must be able to
provide the maximum electrical power required by
the appliance. If it cannot do so, arrange for a
qualified electrician to make the necessary
modifications.
• The power supply unit for each motor must be fitted
with a circuit breaker (Mod. NRG 6000 V).
• Use a multi-polar switch with a minimum contact
gap of 3 mm or more to install the appliance
• Do not cover the appliance intake and outlet grilles.
• Always protect the appliance with a safety grille to
prevent contact with the fan blades and to stop
foreign bodies from entering.
• Should the appliance be dropped or suffer a heavy
blow, have it checked immediately by your Vortice
Service Centre.
• If the appliance does not function correctly or
develops a fault, contact a Vortice Service Centre
immediately. Ensure that only genuine original
Vortice spares are used for any repairs.
• To ensure that the machine operates correctly, we
recommend the use of suitable devices to prevent
the formation of condensation and to stop rainwater
from entering the external air intake and internal air
outlet. The use of a rain guards and systems
designed to prevent the formation of ice on the
condensation outlet is also recommended.
• Check that there is nothing obstructing the flow of
air.
• The appliance must be fitted on suitably sized
supports and has not been designed to bear the
weight of the ducting connected to it.
• The appliance meets the requirements laid down for
ventilating smoking areas. In the event of using a
single heat recovery unit for more than one system,
make sure to that air extracted from smokers' areas
cannot mix with other sources of air.
• The electrical specifications for the power supply
must correspond with the data on ID plate A (fig.1)
