the frequency of the adjusted carrier. The peak deviation frequency is shown on the
screen with an * to indicate that it is different from the entered frequency; the entered
value will be re-established when the FM and/or MOD ON/OFF are disabled.
The predetermined adjustments of the FM are: internal modulation 1kHz, peak
deviation 50kHz, modulation disabled; FM is also the predetermined modulation
adjustment of the instrument.

4.5.3 Phase Modulation (PM)

The options are: INTernal at 400Hz, INTernal at 1kHz or EXTernal; if EXTernal
is selected, the specified modulation frequency range can be applied to the
MODULATION IN/OUT socket.
If PM is selected, the DEPTH/DEVIATION field will automatically show Peak
DEViation. With the selection cursor
be directly adjusted from the keyboard, in rads, or can be changed using the revolving

control or the
keys; the peak deviation can be adjusted with a resolution of 0.05
rads to 10.0 rads and a resolution of 0.1 rads to 10.0 rads.
If the EXTernal modulation is selected, then the peak deviation specified is
obtained with a 1V rms sinusoidal wave modulation signal.
The highest peak deviation value that can be obtained depends on the carrier
frequency –see the "Specifications" section. If a peak deviation that is greater than the
maximum value for the frequency of the adjusted carrier is entered (with MOD ON), the
warning message "PK. DEV LIMITED BY CARRIER FREQUENCY" will be shown
provisionally and the peak deviation will change to the maximum permitted for the
frequency of the adjusted carrier. The peak deviation frequency is shown on the screen
with an * to indicate that it is different from the frequency entered; the entered value will
be re-established when the PM and/or the MOD ON/OFF are disabled.
The predetermined PM adjustments are: internal modulation 1kHz, peak
deviation 5.00 rads, modulation disabled.

4.6 Storing and Recalling Set-ups

Complete instrument set-ups can be stored or recalled from non-volatile RAM
using the STORE and RECALL facilities on the Utilities menu, accessed by pressing
the UTILITIES key.

On this menu, set the
keys. Nine stores, numbered 1 to 9 inclusive are available. Select the required
store and press the EXECUTE key; the display requests that you press EXECUTE
again to confirm the operation (or any other key to cancel). The status of the RF OUT is
ignored; when a store is recalled the RF OUT is always off.
