Transmitter PEX 3000 Installation Instructions
Any use of the transmitter requires full understanding and strict observation of the "Instructions
for Use" of the PEX 3000 (Part-No. 90 23 810)!
Installing Transmitter
— The transmitter should always be mounted vertically (with the sensor facing downwards) – in a place where there is little vibration and
minimum changes of temperatures – in the vicinity of a potential gas leak.
— Secure in place by means of screws through the opened housing (see drilling template). For maintenance purposes allow at least 30 cm
space below the transmitter.
When installing in explosion-hazard areas:
— Electrical wiring is only to be laid and connected by an expert paying attention to the pertinent regulations and laws concerning electrical
equipment in potentially explosive atmospheres as well as the approval conditions.
— The transmitter PEX 3000 including the version with remote sensing head SE Ex PR M or SE Ex LC M is approved for the use in potentially
explosive atmospheres, zones 1, 2, 21, and 22.
Installing electrical connections
The cable gland is explicitly approved for fixed installations and outer cable diameters
between 7 and 12 mm.
Connect to central controller by screened cable (braided screen cover ≥ 80 %, outside
diameter max. 12 mm). Fix shielding to the cone of the cable gland such that when re-
assembling it there is an electrical conductive connection between shielding and the
internal electrical conductive surface of the transmitter (see image).
For the wiring of power supply and signal loop cables only cables with a cross-section of
2
at least 0.75 mm
may be used. Cables with a cross-section of 0.5 mm
if they are equipped with an isolating ferrule (e.g. Zoller+Fröhlich, Type V3AE0005,
V3AE0037 or equivalent).
Correspondingly this applies for the wiring between PEX 3000 type XTR 0090 resp.
XTR 0091 and the remote sensing head SE Ex PR M or sensing head SE Ex LC M.
Connect the spring clamp "0V" and "+24V" to the power supply (18 to 30 V d.c., nominal
24 V, ca. 110 mA). The 0 V-conductor should be grounded at the controller.
Connect spring clamp "SIG" to the 4 to 20 mA-input of the central controller.
Type XTR 0090 resp. XTR 0091:
Connection of sensing head SE Ex PR M (68 09 758) or SE Ex LC M (68 10 486) to the
PEX 3000 by means of screened 3-core cable. Connect screen on both sides with the
appropriate cable gland as described above.
Connect spring terminal "br/br" with terminal 1 of the sensing head,
connect spring terminal "ge/yw" with terminal 2 of the sensing head, and
connect spring terminal "sw/bk" with terminal 3 of the sensing head.
Handling of spring terminals
1 Insert attached special tool into the spring terminal clamp.
2 Press spring downwards to open the clamp in the lower part. Insert stripped cable end or
ferrule into the lower part.
3 Remove special tool from the upper part. The electrical connection is ensured by the
constant pressure force of the spring.
Whenever possible, make use of the special tool delivered with the PEX 3000 to open
the spring clamps!
If not operated properly the spring clamps might be damaged.
After mounting of the transmitter close the housing carefully and make sure the
atmosphere is free of dust.
Tightly install the upper section to obtain IP 65 rating.
