Start assist
!
If the vehicle manufacturer's instructions do not
contain any reference to a start-assist measure using
a rapid-start charger, you should ask for information
on this at your vehicle manufacturer's.
In this operating mode you can use the rapid-start char-
ger for start-assistance.
1. Switch the battery charger off (Fig. 2, Pos. 9).
2. Connect the crocodile clip-on terminals to the prop-
er battery terminals (Fig. 1, Pos. 1). The red-colored
clip goes to the positive terminal (+) and the black
one to the negative terminal (–).
!
Make sure that the crocodile clips have a reliable and
secure connection. When performing a start-assist
measure switch off all consumers in the vehicle.
3. Set the two-way switch for „cold and hot batteries"
to the correct position (Fig. 2, Pos. 6). Note that only
the battery temperature is to be evaluated.
4. Depending upon the output required set the start-
assist current potentiometer (Fig. 2, Pos. 8) to
between 50 % and 100 %.
5. Set the two-way switch (Fig. 2, Pos. 5) to the speci-
fied battery nominal voltage for the battery to be
charged.
6. Switch the battery charger on. After this the red LED
must light continuously (Fig. 2, Pos. 2).
i
If the yellow LED flashes (battery lies in under-
voltage range) the start-assist measure may not be
performed. You should first charge the battery at
least until the yellow LED lights continuously.
7. Start the engine
!
The start-assist measure should only be run for a max-
imum of 8 seconds! After this a cooling-down phase
of approximately 7 minutes for each case should be
adhered to.
8. Switch off the battery charger after the start-assist
measure.
9. Disconnect the crocodile clips from the battery (re-
move the black negative one first).

Troubleshooting
Battery charger does not function after switch on (red
LED does not light):
¶
Unplug the mains cable and check the mains supply
and the mains fuse system.
Red LED flashes after connecting the battery terminals:
¶
Check that the battery is correctly connected. The
red crocodile clip must be connected to the bat-
tery's positive terminal (+) and the black one to the
negative terminal (–).
Possible interruption to the charging process:
¶
If the battery charger's transformer reaches temper-
atures of > 150 °C during operation, a thermostatic
switch integrated into the transformer will switch
off the charging process and then switch it on again
after it has cooled down.
