4.3 RESIDUAL RISKS OF THE PRODUCT
ATTENZIONE!
Possible formation of highly flammable
compressed gases in 4OY motors.
Warning: highly flammable compressed gases may form inside 4OY
motors, caused by possible electric discharges and/or inadequate pro-
tection of the motor and/or improper or unreasonable use of the latter.

5. HANDLING AND STORAGE

5.1 HANDLING

Apply established accident prevention
regulations. The product may be heavy; use proper
lifting equipment and work apparel.
Handling and transportation of the motor must be done using adequate
means and precautions to prevent tipping or tilting of the product itself.

5.2 STORAGE

a) The product must be stored in a covered and dry place, far away
from heat sources and protected against dirt and vibrations.
b) Protect the product against damp conditions, heat sources and
mechanical damage.
c) Do not place heavy objects on the packaging.
d) The product must be stored at a room temperature
between –5°C and +40°C (23°F and 104°F).
e) For motors that have been in stock for over a year and a half, con-
tact our Technical Assistance Service.
6. TECHNICAL-PRODUCTION CHARACTERISTICS

6.1. APPLICATION

Submersible motors can be paired with any 4" submersible pump hav-
ing flange and joint dimensions in accordance with the NEMA stand-
ard.

6.2. DESCRIPTION

WARNING!
Improper use of the product may void the
warranty
WARNING!
Do not use the motor to pump liquids that are
corrosive, explosive or in dangerous environ-
ments.
Improper use of the motor is hazardous and can
result in personal injury and damage to property
4OY submersible motors have the stator immersed in a dielectric liquid
bath, while 4WY motors have the stator impregnated with special epoxy
resin and hermetically sealed, guaranteeing improved electrical insula-
tion and efficient cooling.
The motors consist of:
- lubricated rotor and thrust bearings capable of withstanding axial
thrusts
of 1500 N, 2500 N, 4400 N and 5000 N for the 4OY series;
- graphite rotor and bushings with Kingsbury-type thrust bearing unit for
1500 N, 3000 N and 6500 N thrusts, for the 4WY series;
- AISI 303-Duplex (H.T.) shaft extension for the 4OY series;
- AISI 303-AISI 431 (H.T.) shaft extension for the 4WY series;
- removable power supply cable;
- AISI 304 outer jacket;
- G20 cast iron upper support with AISI 304 upper cover;
- compensating diaphragm.
Dimensions of motor in oil bath 4OY FIG. 1.
Dimensions of motor in water bath 4WY FIG. 3.
The motors are machine components in accordance with that specified
in Directive 2006/42/EC (Machinery Directive). It is forbidden to start
up a machine fitted with a low-voltage motor if the final product does
not conform to the provisions applicable to such machine and
confirmed by the relevant declaration of conformity.

6.3. INTENDED USE

The motors must operate exclusively immersed in water with the liquid
temperature not exceeding 35°C and with pH 5.8–8.6; higher
temperatures may reduce the power and cause the motor to overheat.
The motors can function either vertically or horizontally, but exclusively
for their intended use, that is:
- to pump water out of wells;
- for domestic and agricultural irrigation;
- for operation in pressurised systems;
- for operation with a generator. To this aim, carry out the following
operations:
a) Start the generator first then the motor;
b) Switch the motor off first then the generator.
For special installation needs contact our Technical and Sales
Assistance Service.

6.4. UNEXPECTED USE

It is strictly forbidden to use the motor to carry corrosive or explosive
liquids and particularly dirty or hard water, water above 35°C without
downgrading the motor, and liquids other than water.
